Job description

SUMMARY Under the general supervision of the Director of the Sleep and Circadian Methods Research Core, together with the supervision of the COBRE Center Director, the role of the Sleep and Circadian Rhythms Methods Research Core Research Assistant (SCMRC RA) is to serve as key support for the COBRE Center for Sleep and Circadian Rhythms in Child and Adolescent Mental Health's project leaders as they integrate sleep and circadian rhythms methodologies into their projects. The core Success Factors include: Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate RESPONSIBILITIES The SCMRC RA is responsible for leveraging numerous methodologies to assist center-funded investigators and projects. Current and recent scientific themes include the measurement of sleep and circadian rhythms in: Pediatric anxiety Adolescents who experience psychosis Teens involved in the justice system Autism Epigenetics More These projects may involve in-person assessments, laboratory and field monitoring, wearable technologies to track sleep, biometrics, and brain activity, saliva sampling, and cognitive testing. The SCMRC RA aids in methods documentation and dissemination, training faculty, assisting in data collection, data organization, processing, and summarization.

They also aid in preparing regulatory documents, drafting reports, and can contribute to presentations, publications, and the center's broader academic activities (e.g., journal clubs). This is a dynamic position allowing the incumbent to interface with both the breadth of sleep and circadian rhythms basic science methodology and our center's wide reach in the clinical domains of child and adolescent mental health. It is essential that the SRA be comfortable working with and interacting with research participants and their families

Participants can include children, adolescents, and adults. Information that the SRA comes across and/or collects must always remain confidential and respected. Confidentiality, accuracy, and meticulous attention to detail are essential for this position.

This position requires someone with exceptional "people skills," in addition to enthusiasm, organization, creativity, and determination. A flexible schedule is necessary during certain studies that may require activities in evenings or on weekends. Personal transportation is a must, since the SRA must visit other research sites and pick up materials for participants and their families.

The SRA, although usually assigned to a specific project, assists other teams when projects require additional attention. At times, orientation sessions or laboratory tours with participants and families may require extended or weekend hours. Performs independently within department policies and practices.

Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION Baccalaureate in psychology, neuroscience, cognitive science, or related fields. COMPETENCIES This position requires exceptional "people skills," in addition to enthusiasm, organization, creativity, and determination.

RAs often need to visit other research sites in the system, so personal transportation is critical. Due to the nature of the science, sessions with participants and families may, at times, require extended or weekend hours. A flexible schedule is necessary.

The ideal candidate is interested in graduate school, medical school, or a data-centered career in the behavioral or biomedical sciences. A strong academic record is important; research experience is desirable. EXPERIENCE Prior research experience in human-subjects research (ideal themes include sleep, child mental health, psychology, neuroscience, or a data-driven behavioral science) or in data science and technology is preferred.

Strong computer skills in Microsoft (e.g., Office, Windows) and Apple computing environments. Prior experience with statistics and/or programming (for example, experience with R, STATA, SPSS, MATLAB, UNIX, Python) is a plus. Additional training is provided
