Summary
The Senior Associate Scientist I, Isotope Production will provide hands-on laboratory support for radiochemical and analytical work associated with isotope production programs at RayzeBio. This role will assist in the execution of experiments and process steps supporting the production of Actinium-225 through cyclotron irradiation of Radium-226 targets, under the guidance of senior scientific staff. The individual will contribute to radiochemical separations, data collection, and laboratory operations, gaining exposure to process development activities that support the translation of laboratory-scale concepts into scalable production processes for shielded hot cells and GMP manufacturing facilities.
Job Responsibilities
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Participate in the experimental design for R&D radiochemical processes associated with the production, purification, and recovery of Actinium-225 and related isotopes, under the direction of senior scientists.
• Execute the implementation of separation and purification methods using chromatography, precipitation, solvent extraction, and other radiochemical techniques.
• Run process scale-up studies, transitioning from benchtop to process scale operations for shielded hot cell operations.
• Perform hands-on laboratory work with radioactive materials, including alpha-emitting isotopes, following established radiological safety practices and procedures.
• Help maintain process flow diagrams, equipment logs, standard operating procedures, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with engineering and scientific staff on process equipment setup, automation systems, and routine facility operations.
• Independently execute target processing activities, radionuclide recovery tasks, waste handling, and basic process troubleshooting.
• Assist with literature review and data gathering to support process improvement efforts.
• Collect, organize, and perform basic analysis of experimental data using standard scientific methods, under supervision.
• Support technology transfer activities by assisting with documentation and execution of transfer protocols.
• Work with external vendors and business partners to install and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Follow established procedures with attention to detail and contribute to a culture of scientific rigor and operational excellence.
• Less than 5% of travel may be required.
Education and Experience
• BS/MS in Radiochemistry, Chemistry, or a related scientific field, with 2+ years of direct experience with radioactive materials.
• Additional cGMP and chemistry laboratory experience is preferred.
Skills and Qualifications
• Coursework or laboratory exposure to Actinium-225, Radium-226, Thorium-229, Thorium-228, Radium-224, or other alpha-emitting isotope systems is a plus.
• Willingness to work with hot cells, gloveboxes, shielded enclosures, and remote handling systems.
• Basic familiarity with cyclotron-produced radioisotopes and post-irradiation target processing is preferred.
• Prior experience with ion exchange chromatography, extraction chromatography, solvent extraction, or radionuclide recovery methods, analytical instrumentation such as HPGe spectroscopy, alpha spectroscopy, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, liquid scintillation counting, or related techniques is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail with good data documentation and technical writing skills.
• Strong professional ethics, integrity, and ability to maintain confidential information.
• Uses AI tools to enhance individual productivity and quality of work
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
This is a position that requires working in a laboratory environment, protective clothing, gloves, and safety glasses are required while working in a laboratory environment with radioactive materials.

Compensation Overview:
Indianapolis - RayzeBio - IN: $82,236 - $99,650
The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee's work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.
