Overview
Under direct supervision, perform all duties related to registering patients receiving services by obtaining demographic, insurance, and medical information and billing tasks.
Responsibilities
Interviews patients or patients' representatives to obtain demographic and insurance information necessary for the purpose of treatment, billing, contracting, and data analysis.
Inputs registration information into computer system, verifies accuracy of data entered, and scans appropriate documents.
Accurately prepares required forms for completion, review, and/or signature by patients or patients representative and ensures that each is explained and presented in a manner understood by the patient.
Receives and reviews medical documentation (to include records & referrals) and assists in the appropriate processing of these documents based on their scope & job duties.
Verifies insurance eligibility, medical necessity, and whether a referral is needed for visit using websites and computer applications.
Facilitates patient and information flow by directing patients to correct locations and aiding as needed.
Responsible for phone call answering and voice mail checking, logging, and/or returning based on their scope & job responsibilities.
Assists clinical staff and providers with clerical responsibilities when needed.
Assists in the daily workflow of the practice, including but not limited to opening procedures, chart preparation, lunch/admin time procedures, end of day procedures, and closing procedures.
Understands how to utilize the EHR, DHIN (Delaware Health Information Network), Provider Portal, websites for insurance verification/eligibility and other systems as needed.
Understands HIPAA regulations for patients and other facilities and follows them.
Understands how to use office equipment, including but not limited to computers, scanners, printers, phones, photocopiers, credit card processing machines, iPads, webcams, etc.
Assists in care and maintenance of office equipment, building, supplies and patient rooms.
Informs the manager by email of any work orders needed for equipment, computer-related issues, and/or maintenance issues.
Works in other BMG office locations and/or other shift times when needed.
Performs all other duties as assigned by manager/director.
Qualifications
Two years experience in hospital/medical office environment with familiarity of registration and insurance. Ability to communicate with public in a courteous manner. Ability to adapt to change in order to meet patient and organizational needs. Sensitive to difficult/emotional patient situations. Ability to recognize cultural diversity and special needs, remains calm and able to perform duties in a fast-paced environment. Computer skills with attention to details. Familiar with medical terminology.
