Data protection officers (DPOs) are professionals responsible for ensuring that an organization complies with data protection laws and regulations, such as the GDPR in Europe. Their duties typically include advising on data protection obligations, monitoring internal compliance, conducting data protection impact assessments, and serving as a point of contact for supervisory authorities and individuals whose data is processed. DPOs play a crucial role in safeguarding sensitive information and helping organizations build trust with customers and stakeholders by managing data responsibly.

What jobs pay 500,000 a year in the US?

High-paying jobs that can reach or exceed $500,000 annually include executive roles such as Chief Executive Officers (CEOs), Chief Financial Officers (CFOs), and other C-suite positions, often in large corporations. Certain specialized roles like top-tier investment bankers, successful entrepreneurs, and highly experienced surgeons or medical specialists can also earn this level of income, especially with bonuses, profit sharing, or ownership stakes. Achieving this income typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and often a combination of base salary and performance-based compensation.

How does a Data Protection professional typically collaborate with other departments to ensure compliance?

Data Protection professionals work closely with various departments such as IT, Legal, HR, and Operations to implement and monitor data privacy protocols. They often lead training sessions, advise on best practices, and help integrate data protection requirements into business processes. Regular communication and collaboration are essential, as they must ensure that all teams understand their responsibilities regarding sensitive data. This cross-functional teamwork helps maintain company-wide compliance and mitigates risks associated with data breaches.

Is SOC an entry level job?

A Security Operations Center (SOC) analyst role is typically not entry-level and often requires some experience in cybersecurity, network monitoring, or related fields. Entry-level positions in cybersecurity may include roles like SOC analyst trainee or junior analyst, but more advanced SOC roles usually demand certifications such as CompTIA Security+ or CISSP and prior experience. The specific requirements vary by organization and job level.

Is data protection a stressful job?

Data protection roles can be stressful due to the responsibility of safeguarding sensitive information and ensuring compliance with regulations. The job often requires attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and sometimes working under tight deadlines or in high-pressure situations. However, workload and stress levels vary depending on the organization and specific role.

What is a data protection job?

A data protection job involves safeguarding sensitive information from unauthorized access, breaches, and cyber threats. Professionals in this field often work with security protocols, encryption tools, and compliance standards to ensure data privacy and integrity within organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Data Protection, and why are they important?

To thrive in Data Protection, a strong understanding of data privacy laws, risk management, and information security—often supported by relevant degrees or certifications like CIPP or CISSP—is essential. Familiarity with data loss prevention (DLP) tools, encryption technologies, and compliance management systems is typically required. Excellent analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help professionals identify risks and educate stakeholders. These abilities ensure organizations maintain regulatory compliance, protect sensitive information, and build trust with clients and partners.

Job description

About FlightSafety International

FlightSafety International is the world's premier professional aviation training company and supplier of flight simulators, visual systems and displays to commercial, government and military organizations. The company provides training for pilots, technicians and other aviation professionals from 167 countries and independent territories. FlightSafety operates the world's largest fleet of advanced full-flight simulators and award-winning maintenance training at Learning Centers and training locations in the United States, Canada, France and the United Kingdom.

Purpose of Position

The Lead Data Architect is a senior member of the Data team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise and system-level conceptual, logical, and physical data models using Data Vault methodology within a Data Mesh architecture. This role translates the organization's data product strategy into actionable architecture solutions, ensuring data models, standards, and domain-aligned data products are consistently delivered across the enterprise. The Lead Data Architect works closely with data domain owners, Data Engineers, Analytics teams, and business stakeholders to build and evolve scalable, well-governed data products on the organization's Databricks-based platform, leveraging a custom automation framework and modern lakehouse patterns to drive domain-oriented, self-serve data capabilities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of conceptual, logical, and physical data models using Data Vault methodology for the enterprise Databricks lakehouse platform, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and business requirements
Architect and evolve domain-aligned data products within a Data Mesh framework, ensuring each data domain delivers discoverable, addressable, trustworthy, and self-describing data products
Collaborate with data domain owners, Data Engineering, Analytics, and Business Relationship Management (BRM) teams to translate business needs into robust, domain-oriented data architecture solutions
Define and maintain data modeling standards, naming conventions, and design patterns that support Data Vault modeling, Data Mesh principles, and a consistent data product lifecycle across the enterprise
Design and extend the organization's custom automation framework on Databricks, leveraging latest platform components (Unity Catalog, Delta Live Tables, Databricks Workflows, Databricks Asset Bundles) to accelerate data product delivery
Develop and enforce a decision-making framework aligned with data domains and data products, enabling domain teams to make autonomous architecture decisions within guardrails
Drive the implementation of master data management (MDM), metadata management, and data governance initiatives, leveraging Unity Catalog and platform-native capabilities for federated governance
Conduct data architecture reviews for projects and data products to ensure compliance with enterprise data standards, Data Mesh principles, policies, and security requirements
Collaborate with the CISO and data protection teams to ensure data classifications, data zoning, and security requirements are embedded into data product and platform designs
Create and maintain architecture documentation, including data product specifications, data flow diagrams, entity-relationship diagrams, data dictionaries, and domain boundary definitions
Support the development of enterprise data governance processes and structures, including data quality frameworks, data contracts, and data product SLAs
Identify and resolve data architecture issues, including data redundancy, cross-domain integration challenges, and performance bottlenecks across the Databricks platform
Participate in strategic roadmap planning by providing technical assessments and architecture recommendations for data products and analytics initiatives
Evaluate emerging Databricks features, partner integrations, and data management trends to recommend improvements to the platform and automation framework
Mentor and provide technical guidance to Data Engineers and junior team members on Data Vault modeling, Data Mesh practices, and platform best practices
Facilitate communication with Databricks and other technology partners for technical evaluation, proof-of-concept efforts, and troubleshooting
Balance tactical project delivery with adherence to long-term data product strategy and enterprise architectural vision
Be accountable and responsible for the accuracy and completeness of assigned work and results
Prioritize and manage workload and communicate issues clearly
   Complete other tasks as required
   Travel when required
