The Nuclear Engineering Program Manager provides strategic, administrative, and operational leadership for the Nuclear Engineering Program within the Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at Kansas State University. This position leads the organization of ABET data, external stakeholder engagement, and the development and tracking of program-level metrics and workforce outcomes. The role requires independent judgment, coordination across multiple university units, and external representation of the program. This position is responsible for coordinating program activities and representing the program to students, industry, and stakeholders. The Program Manager plays a key role in enhancing program visibility, ensuring compliance with accreditation standards, and advancing program growth and excellence.

The MNE department has 24 faculty members, annual research expenditures of approximately $6M, and an enrollment of approximately 850 undergraduate and graduate students. Ice College of Engineering is located on the main Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, Kansas, a vibrant, family-friendly city located in the scenic Flint Hills. This position is Hybrid eligible. It is expected that this position will require at least 20 hours per week on-site. Hybrid arrangements may be negotiated depending on specific circumstances. All remote work must be performed in the United States. On-site participation will be generally required to support events and meetings. The employee's specific circumstances will be considered when scheduling these events and meetings to facilitate on-site presence. Other than IT equipment, the employee must procure all necessary equipment, materials, supplies, and services required to perform duties off-site.

All employees must reside in the United States when they begin working to comply with state law. K-State is unable to provide remote or hybrid work opportunities for residents of the state of Idaho.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and seven years of relevant experience in program coordination, administration, or project management. Requirements may be met through a combination of work experience and education.
• Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, education, business administration, or a related field.
• Advanced degree in nuclear engineering, engineering discipline, or related field.
• Experience in a higher education or technical environment.
• Familiarity with ABET accreditation processes and outcomes assessment.
• Experience working with external partners such as industry, national laboratories, and/or government agencies.
• Experience with student recruitment, outreach, or public engagement.
• Knowledge of nuclear engineering education, workforce needs, and/or research environments.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

Additional Role Information:

• Key Responsibilities

  Program Administration and Coordination

  • Oversee daily administrative operations of the Nuclear Engineering Program.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze program metrics including enrollment trends, student outcomes, placement data, and assessment results to support accreditation, reporting, and strategic decision-making.
  • Coordinate program activities, including scheduling, meetings, reporting, and special initiatives.
  • Maintain program records, documentation, and communications to ensure efficiency and continuity.
  • Support faculty and leadership in strategic planning and program development efforts.
  • Assist with preparation and coordination of program-level proposals, reports, and initiatives related to workforce development, education, and outreach funding.

  ABET Accreditation and Assessment

  • Lead preparation, organization, and maintenance of ABET accreditation materials and documentation.
  • Work with faculty to compile assessment reports, analyze results, and support continuous program improvement.
  • Ensure readiness for ABET site visits, including organizing evidence, logistics, and supporting materials.

  Stakeholder Engagement and External Relations

  • Collaborate with the KSU Foundation, K-State Alumni Association, and other KSU personnel to build and maintain relationships with industry partners, government agencies, national laboratories, and alumni to benefit the Nuclear Engineering Program.
  • Identify opportunities for collaboration, internships, research partnerships, and student placement.
  • Serve as a liaison between the program and external stakeholders to enhance program reputation and impact.
  • Coordinate activities of the Nuclear Engineering Program advisory board, including organizing meetings, preparing materials, and tracking follow-up actions.

  Recruitment, Outreach, and Program Promotion

  • Organize and conduct program tours for prospective students, visitors, and key stakeholders.
  • Represent the Nuclear Engineering Program at recruiting events, outreach activities, and professional meetings.
  • Collaborate with College and University marketing teams to promote the program through various communication channels.
  • Support student recruitment and retention initiatives, including engagement with K-12 outreach and community activities.

  Student and Academic Support

  • Assist in coordinating student engagement activities.
  • Help organize seminars, guest lectures, and professional development events.
  • Serve as a resource for students regarding program requirements, opportunities, and applied learning.
  • Support development and tracking of student internships, co-op placements, and post-graduate employment opportunities in coordination with industry and national laboratory partners.

  Program Representation and Leadership

  • Represent the Nuclear Engineering Program internally within the University and externally at professional and community events.
  • Support departmental and College initiatives aligned with program goals and strategic vision.
  • Contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and best practices supporting program excellence.
