Position Summary:

Henkels & McCoy West is seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead complex power delivery infrastructure projects (T&D, substation, t-line) across the western U.S. This role will support the execution of overhead transmission, above-ground substations, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects within rapidly growing utility and renewable energy markets.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, utility construction expertise, and a proven ability to safely deliver large-scale projects on schedule and within budget while managing client relationships, field operations, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams.


Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting of project scope, schedule, cost, quality, and performance metrics across high-value transmission, substation, and power delivery projects. Provide detailed project status updates and performance insights to senior management, clients, and stakeholders to drive informed decision-making.

  • Serve as a key representative in executive-level, multi-stakeholder environments, leveraging negotiation and conflict resolution skills to proactively identify and address issues, align competing interests, and ensure timely, efficient project execution.

  • Take full accountability for risk identification, assessment, and mitigation planning for both self-performed and subcontracted work. Develop and implement strategic contingency plans to reduce exposure across the project lifecycle and ensure alignment with contract requirements and safety protocols.

  • Perform in-depth data analysis, forecasting, and performance trend evaluation to uncover existing and emerging project risks, constraints, and opportunities. Translate analytical findings into actionable strategies that support project objectives and client satisfaction.

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by contributing thought leadership in the evolution of project management tools, systems, and methodologies. Champion the adoption of best practices and standard operating procedures grounded in Henkels & McCoy’s Project Management Framework.

  • Implement scalable infrastructure, tools, and processes to support project demand, resource planning, and lifecycle governance. Ensure robust workflows are in place to meet evolving project and client requirements.

  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to project teams, including cross-functional contributors, field personnel, and subcontractors. May directly supervise a small team or serve as an individual contributor leading complex project initiatives with dotted-line oversight.

  • Foster a high-performance project culture that emphasizes accountability, continuous feedback, and professional development. Promote trust, transparency, and collaboration within internal teams and with external partners.

  • Oversee staffing requirements for assigned projects, including resource onboarding, training, performance management, and work allocation. Ensure team roles and responsibilities are well-defined and aligned with project deliverables and corporate objectives.

  • Provide mentorship to PM and/or APM assisting on project scope to enhance their understanding of the scope of work and their continued development with the organization

Qualifications

Preferred Experience

  • 8+ years of progressive project management experience in utility construction, power delivery, transmission, substations, or renewable energy infrastructure
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field preferred
  • Direct experience with:
    • Overhead transmission line construction
    • Above-ground substation infrastructure
    • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
    • EPC and utility capital projects
  • Strong background in contract management, scheduling, forecasting, and project controls
  • Experience managing self-perform and subcontracted construction activities
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, and Microsoft Office Suite

Salary Range: $120,000/yr to $180,000/yr (will be dependent upon level of experience)
