Job description

Established in 2021, Independence Pet Holdings is a corporate holding company that manages a diverse and broad portfolio of modern pet health brands and services, including insurance, pet education, lost recovery services, and more throughout North America.
We believe pet insurance is more than a financial product and build solutions to simplify the pet parenting journey and help improve the well-being of pets. As a leading authority in the pet category, we operate with a full stack of resources, capital, and services to support pet parents. Our multi-brand and omni-channel approach include our own insurance carrier, insurance brands and partner brands.
Position Summary
The Data Product Manager owns the roadmap, backlog, and lifecycle of IPH's enterprise data products - ensuring each product delivers measurable business value, is adopted by the teams it serves, and is maintained to the quality and reliability standards the business expects.
This role operates downstream of the Manager, Data Solutions Strategy, who identifies and frames initiatives. The DPM then owns the "how" and "when": translating solution briefs into clear product requirements, managing delivery with engineering and analytics teams, tracking adoption and usage, and making evidence-based decisions about what to build, enhance, or retire.
Data products in scope include Policy360, Claims360, Finance Analytics, Operations Analytics, the Enterprise Data Platform, Skylark, Rating & Pricing models, and additional products aligned to the enterprise roadmap. Prioritization is driven by business impact and roadmap sequencing.
Main Responsibilities:
Strategy & Ownership
  • Own the strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle for assigned data products - from intake through delivery, adoption, and retirement decisions.
  • Receive framed initiatives from the Manager, Data Solutions Strategy and translate them into product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria suitable for engineering delivery.
  • Align product development with business demand, enterprise governance standards, and the data architecture roadmap.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Data Strategy & Planning, Solution Strategists, and Data Architects to deliver integrated, compliant data solutions.
  • Maintain data product documentation including data contracts, SLAs, ownership, and classification standards.

Roadmap & Backlog Management
  • Own and maintain the product backlog for assigned data products - prioritizing features by business value and measurable outcome.
  • Write clear requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria; facilitate sprint planning, backlog refinement, and UAT with delivery teams.
  • Balance stakeholder needs, technical constraints, governance requirements, and resource availability to optimize delivery sequencing.
  • Escalate scope conflicts or priority disputes to the Head of Data Strategy & Planning with a clear recommendation.

Adoption & Value Measurement
  • Define adoption KPIs at product launch - including usage metrics, active user counts, self-service rates, and certified dashboard adoption.
  • Track and report on adoption, usage patterns, and value delivered back to the business; identify and address adoption barriers proactively.
  • Evaluate product performance continuously and make evidence-based recommendations to enhance, scale, or retire products based on ROI and strategic alignment.
  • Partner with the Analytics Adoption Lead and Change Management function to drive business user enablement and reduce resistance to new data products.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for delivery teams on product requirements, acceptance criteria, and priority decisions.
  • Work closely with the Senior Data Architect to maintain data consistency, governance compliance, and architectural integrity across all data products.
  • Partner with Data Engineering, MDM, Metadata, and Governance teams to ensure data products meet trust, discoverability, and quality standards.
  • Communicate product progress, adoption metrics, and business impact to stakeholders through regular reporting and demos.

Qualifications:
  • 5-8 years of experience in data, analytics, product management, or solution delivery roles.
  • Demonstrated experience defining, managing, or owning data-centric products or platforms from requirement through adoption.
  • Strong understanding of data management concepts - including data modeling, quality, governance, lineage, and data contracts.
  • Familiarity with modern data tools and platforms including Azure, Azure DevOps, Databricks, and Power BI; exposure to policy administration systems a plus.
  • Ability to write clear product requirements and user stories for technical delivery teams working in Agile/scrum environments.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Data Analytics, Computer Science, or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in insurance, financial services, or another regulated industry with complex, multi-source data environments.
  • Familiarity with data governance and catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Purview) given close integration with governance workflows and data contracts.
  • Experience measuring and driving product adoption - including defining usage KPIs, identifying adoption barriers, and working with enablement teams.
  • Exposure to pricing, underwriting, claims, or finance analytics domains within an insurance or insurtech context.
  • Agile/product certification (CSPO, SAFe PO, or equivalent).
  • Pet health, insurtech, or multi-brand portfolio experience is a plus.

Success Indicators:
  • Adoption is measurable and growing: Each shipped data product has defined adoption KPIs, and usage trends are tracked and reported on a regular cadence.
  • Backlog is healthy: The product backlog is prioritized, current, and free of ambiguous requirements. Engineering teams spend less time seeking clarification.
  • Business value is visible: Stakeholders can connect specific data products to specific business outcomes - reduced manual effort, faster decisions, improved claims accuracy, or measurable pricing improvements.
  • Handoff quality is high: Solution briefs received from the Manager, Data Solutions Strategy are consistently translated into requirements with minimal rework or scope drift.
  • Data contracts are in place: Assigned data products have documented data contracts, SLAs, and ownership - enabling downstream consumers to trust and rely on the data.
