Job description

R. J. Corman is currently seeking Mechanical Team Members (QMI) to join our team based out of Minot. This position will work 12-hour shifts, and the operation is active 24/7, 365 days per year.
Responsibilities:
  • Railcar inspections & repairs must be documented for verification and to ensure the work is being done correctly and in a timely manner
  • Complete railcar inspections, including extended haul inspections in compliance with 49 CFR Parts 215, 218, 224, 231, 232
  • Maintain understanding of documenting work performed and recording material usage. All federally required paperwork for railcar repairs must be complete and correct
  • Ensure that repair jobs are completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure that vehicles and shops are kept clean & safe
  • Must undergo QMI training
  • Must be proficient in car repair, data entry, and material ordering.
  • May require qualification to move locomotives and freight cars. Additional training provided.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Specialized or Technical Knowledge, or Education and Experience:
  • Railroad carman experience with extended haul inspections highly desirable.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Must have good communication and people skills with demonstrated ability to develop team work and work with all levels of personnel in achieving our goals.

Physical Requirements:
  • Able to perform physical strenuous work
  • Able to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs
  • Requires occasional use of 30 lb claw bar, requiring application of 50 lbs of force
  • Requires occasional use of 10 lb sledge hammer, requiring application of 75 lbs of force
  • Able to walk, climb, and maintain balance on equipment, stairs, ladders, uneven terrain, rails and ballast in a safe manner
  • Able to navigate into confined spaces if necessary

Environmental Conditions:
  • Performs duties in outside environments, in and around moving locomotives, railcars, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to weather elements.
  • Appropriate PPE Required

Major or Unusual Problems:
  • Must carry out responsibilities in a fast-paced RR environment.
  • Requires efficient development and performance of processes; and requires ability to multi-task in a time sensitive environment.
  • High visibility position requires professional demeanor in interactions with Supervisors, employees, contractors and customers.

Job Dimensions:
  • Must be able to perform duties under direct supervision, when given general direction with limited discretion.
  • Does not require supervision of fellow employees.
