Job description

About Gap Inc.

At Gap Inc., we create culture as much as we create clothes. Our ambition is to become a high-performing house of iconic American brands that shape culture.

Our portfolio—Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic, and Athleta—each brings a distinct point of view to how we show up in the world and serve our customers.

Old Navy democratizes style with quality and value for all. Gap champions originality through essential pieces that celebrate individuality. Banana Republic is rooted in a spirit of discovery, creating modern pieces inspired by craftsmanship and travel. Athleta champions the Power of She through confidence, strength, and movement.

We’re driven by a shared purpose: to bridge gaps—between people, perspectives, and possibilities—to create a better world.

We’re building a team that performs at a high level—people who think boldly, take ownership, and turn ideas into impact. If you’re ready to learn fast and help shape what’s next, you’ll fit right in.

About the role

We’re looking for a business-minded Director of Data & AI to own and scale data and AI capabilities across our Post-Purchase and Innovation ecosystem. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, technology, and customer experience—spanning fulfillment, returns, call center operations, experimentation, and emerging channels such as marketplace partnerships (on-demand fulfillment, social selling, wholesale, and beyond).Think of this role as a General Manager for Data & AI in this space: setting the vision, shaping the roadmap, and turning data into measurable business impact. You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and business leaders to prioritize investments, guide innovation, and ensure data and AI are core to how we operate and grow.

What you'll do

Set the Vision

  • Define and lead the data and AI strategy for Post-Purchase and Innovation, aligning it tightly with company priorities and customer outcomes
  • Partner with executive leadership to influence technology investment decisions, trade-offs, and long-term roadmap planning
  • Drive smarter usage and optimization of existing platforms across Fulfillment, Returns, and Customer Support using data-driven insights

Build and Lead a High-Impact Team

  • Hire, lead, and inspire a cross-functional team of data scientists, analysts, and data product managers
  • Create a culture of ownership, curiosity, and delivery—coaching the team on both technical excellence and business impact
  • Deliver complex initiatives in collaboration with Engineering, Data Engineering, Product, and Business teams

Drive Experimentation & Learning

  • Champion a test-and-learn mindset, embedding experimentation into how technology decisions are made
  • Lead experimentation design, measurement frameworks, and testing strategies across initiatives
  • Apply advanced analytical techniques to evaluate outcomes, run “what-if” scenarios, and provide clear recommendations

Advance Algorithms & AI

  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of algorithms and models that improve efficiency, reduce cost, and elevate customer experience
  • Ensure models are scalable, explainable, and aligned with real-world operational needs

Be a Connector & Storyteller

  • Translate business challenges into actionable data and AI initiatives
  • Communicate complex technical concepts with clarity and confidence to non-technical partners
  • Present insights, progress, and recommendations to senior and executive leadership
Who you are
  • Proven experience leading data and/or data science teams, ideally in fulfillment, returns, or innovation-driven environments
  • Strong hands-on foundation in Python and SQL, with the ability to guide technical direction
  • Retail or marketplace experience strongly preferred
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and influence skills
  • A track record of building teams, driving strategy, and delivering real business outcomes through data

Salary Range: $209,700.00 - $272,600.00
Employee pay will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, skill level, competencies and work location. We will meet minimum wage or minimum of the pay range (whichever is higher) based on city, county and state requirements.

Benefits at Gap Inc.
  • Merchandise discount for our brands: 50% off regular-priced merchandise at Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta, and 30% off at Outlet for all employees.
  • One of the most competitive Paid Time Off plans in the industry.*
  • Employees can take up to five “on the clock” hours each month to volunteer at a charity of their choice.*
  • Extensive 401(k) plan with company matching for contributions up to four percent of an employee’s base pay.*
  • Employee stock purchase plan.*
  • Medical, dental, vision and life insurance.*
