The Technical Lead will be part of the Global Network Delivery team that monitors and troubleshoots the Network infrastructure for American Airlines locations such as airports, cargo, sales offices, etcetera. This position requires analysis, design, and engineering of network solutions within the AA architectural framework to meet project needs.

What you'll do

As noted above, this list is intended to reflect the current job but there may be additional essential functions (and certainly non-essential job functions) that are not referenced.  Management will modify the job or require other tasks be performed whenever it is deemed appropriate to do so, observing, of course, any legal obligations including any collective bargaining obligations

  • Write/engineer network device configuration scripts with associated change documentation to meet project goals and deadlines.
  • Implement network changes during appropriate change windows (after hours)
  • Review and provide feedback on change documentation/engineering of other engineers.
  • Establish processes to test applications and devices before planned network deployment to quantify their performance and recommend steps to ensure they are optimized.
  • Serve as second-tier support for network operations team when needed.
  • Participate in on-call support escalation rotation
  • Translate business needs into actionable deliverables.
  • Manage small/medium internal data network projects.
  • Create detailed network designs that meet the customer requirements (including physical and logical) of complex network systems to meet the functional objectives of the business.
  • Serve as a technical resource providing guidance and advice to associates on data, voice, and mobile network capabilities for utilizing the full capability of technology in designing effective solutions.
All you'll need for success

Minimum Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • B.S. Computer Science, Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of enterprise data network/IT industry experience with a minimum of 4 working with data network technologies at an enterprise scale
  • Industry Certifications such as CCNP/CCIE is desired
  • Demonstrated expertise with protocol analyzers, and test equipment is desired.
  • Experience working with network tools such as CA Spectrum and Wireshark

Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience

  • Previous software development experience is a plus to help drive Automation

Skills, Licenses & Certifications

  • Expert-level knowledge working with Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls, including administration, implementation of firewall rules and advanced troubleshooting of complex network and security issues
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise networking infrastructure, including Cisco, Aruba, and Meraki switching/routing, and protocols such as BGP, OSPF, TCP/IP, VLANs, Spanning Tree, QoS, VPN, NAT, and MPLS
  • Experience with SD-WAN technologies, including VeloCloud, Cisco Viptela, and Versa, with the ability to perform basic troubleshooting and issue resolution
  • Proven track record in leading switch upgrades, refresh projects, and resolving high-impact network incidents
  • Familiarity with public cloud networking (especially Microsoft Azure) and basic cloud security principles
  • Hands-on experience with network vulnerability management, compliance considerations, and Wi-Fi design/troubleshooting
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead cross-functional discussions and act as a key escalation point
  • Demonstrated ability to manage third-party vendors and work across IT and business teams in a partially outsourced environment
  • Capable of independently driving projects and tasks with minimal supervision in fast-paced, dynamic settings
  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement
  • Ability to develop business cases and present ROI for infrastructure investments to senior leadership
