Job description

Job Title: Environmental Monitoring TechnicianJob Description

The Environmental Monitoring Technician plays a key role in supporting cleanroom and biosafety operations by performing sampling activities, monitoring biohazard risks, and helping maintain a robust environmental monitoring program. This position collaborates closely with microbiology and operations teams, contributes to continuous improvement of monitoring processes, and ensures accurate documentation of data in laboratory information systems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform environmental sampling activities in biosafety cabinets and cleanroom areas in accordance with established protocols.
  • Monitor biohazard risks associated with human and animal tissue materials and ensure appropriate decontamination procedures are followed.
  • Collaborate with microbiology and operations teams to maintain environmental monitoring program standards and support quality control activities.
  • Support the design, optimization, and continuous improvement of environmental monitoring processes and procedures.
  • Conduct swabbing and other microbial sampling techniques to assess cleanliness and contamination levels.
  • Apply aseptic technique during sampling and handling of tissue-based products to maintain product and environmental integrity.
  • Accurately document sampling activities, test results, and observations, and enter data into the LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Follow GMP and/or GLP guidelines as applicable to ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory expectations.
  • Work as part of a team, contribute to a collaborative culture, and help guide and support others as needed.
  • Safely process and handle human and animal tissue-based products in accordance with biosafety and company procedures.
Essential Skills
  • Experience with environmental monitoring activities, including sampling in biosafety cabinets and cleanrooms.
  • Understanding of biologics, biomedical, medical device manufacturing, or tissue manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of quality control principles in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in aseptic technique and sampling protocols.
  • Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) or GLP (Good Laboratory Practice) in an industrial setting.
  • Basic microbiology knowledge and prior lab training.
  • Ability to perform swabbing and other microbial sampling methods.
  • Comfort with processing and handling human and animal tissue-based products.
  • Strong teamwork orientation and the ability to lead and support others.
  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately document and log data in a LIMS system.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a life science discipline such as biology, microbiology, biomedical science, or a related field.
  • Prior microbiology laboratory experience is a plus.
  • Industry experience in biologics, biomedical, medical device manufacturing, or tissue manufacturing is highly beneficial.
  • Experience working in a cleanroom or controlled environment is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with biohazard risk assessment and decontamination procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and adherence to established procedures and regulatory guidelines.
Work Environment

This role operates in a business casual and cleanroom environment, with strict adherence to aseptic and biosafety practices. The position is part-time, averaging approximately 20 hours per week, primarily on Mondays and Fridays. Openings are available on second and third shifts, with typical hours for second shift around 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (flexing roughly 1:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.) and third shift around 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. (flexing roughly 11:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m.). Off-shift schedules include a shift differential. Work is performed in a controlled, cleanroom setting where handling of human and animal tissue-based products is routine, and collaboration with microbiology and operations teams is an integral part of the daily environment.

This is a Contract position based out of Dayton, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
