Pay Rate: $100–$110/hr

Work Schedule: 9/80 or 5/8 schedule

Positions Available: 1

Clearance: Not required

Start Date: ASAP

About the Role

COMPA Industries is recruiting on behalf of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for a Solutions Architect 4 – SAP S/4HANA Data Migration Lead supporting Project Nexus and LANL’s enterprise data modernization initiative.

LANL is transitioning its enterprise resource planning environment to a cloud-based SAP platform through a greenfield S/4HANA implementation. Ariba, Concur, and Fieldglass are already part of the SAP ecosystem, and the future-state data architecture will include SAP Business Data Cloud connected to Databricks.

This position will serve as LANL’s senior internal authority on SAP data migration. The selected candidate will independently review and challenge the System Integrator’s recommendations and help LANL make informed decisions involving migration architecture, data quality, cost, risk, governance, cutover, and long-term operational impact.

This is a hands‑on advisory role for someone who can translate complex technical guidance into actionable decisions, protect LANL from unnecessary risks and runaway costs, and ensure short‑term implementation choices do not create long‑term operational burdens.

Key Responsibilities Data Migration Leadership
  • Serve as LANL’s senior expert for SAP S/4HANA data migration.
  • Act as a technical peer to the System Integrator’s data migration lead.
  • Independently evaluate the integrator’s migration strategy, architecture, assumptions, plans, and deliverables.
  • Challenge recommendations that introduce unnecessary risk, cost, schedule impact, audit exposure, or operational burden.
  • Translate technical options into clear recommendations for LANL leadership.
  • Determine when to accept the integrator’s judgment, request additional evidence, elevate concerns, or hold LANL’s position.
  • Advise on migration architecture, tooling, sequencing, reconciliation, cutover, and hypercare.
SAP S/4HANA and Data Architecture
  • Provide expert guidance on S/4HANA data models and differences between legacy ERP platforms and SAP.
  • Guide source‑to‑target mapping and legacy‑concept‑to‑SAP‑concept translation.
  • Advise on SAP Business Partner, Universal Journal, Material Ledger, Finance, Supply Chain, HR/HCM, Plant Maintenance/EAM, and enterprise master data.
  • Identify cross‑functional data dependencies affecting reconciliation, business readiness, or cutover.
  • Evaluate migration tools based on capability, cost, scalability, schedule, security, and auditability.
SAP Business Data Cloud and Databricks
  • Advise on SAP Business Data Cloud and its role in LANL’s future S/4HANA data landscape.
  • Guide integration between S/4HANA, SAP Business Data Cloud, BDC connectors, and Databricks.
  • Recommend appropriate replication, staging, transformation, ETL, reconciliation, and zero‑copy patterns.
  • Help define how SAP data will support reporting, analytics, AI/ML, reconciliation, and operational use cases.
  • Recommend the appropriate use of Databricks, Snowflake, or comparable platforms.
  • Ensure architecture supports security, data classification, governance, auditability, and long‑term maintainability.
Legacy Data Migration
  • Support migration from Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle ODS, custom applications, and other non-SAP systems.
  • Bridge Oracle source-system concepts with SAP target structures.
  • Identify gaps between legacy data definitions and future SAP processes.
  • Advise on extraction, staging, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and archival strategies.
  • Prevent important legacy concepts from being lost, misinterpreted, or silently excluded.
Workstream Coordination
  • Coordinate LANL’s internal data migration activities across business and technical domains.
  • Maintain the migration plan and identify slippage, dependencies, and risks early.
  • Track System Integrator deliverables, decisions, assumptions, issues, risks, and open actions.
  • Lead working sessions with data owners, functional leads, architects, engineers, security teams, and the integrator.
  • Drive actions and decisions to completion.
  • Coordinate dependencies across Finance, Supply Chain, HR, Plant Maintenance/EAM, and master-data teams.
Data Quality and Reconciliation
  • Establish data cleansing and quality standards across migration domains.
  • Validate that quality thresholds support S/4HANA go‑live and ongoing operations.
  • Coordinate cleansing activities with business data owners.
  • Identify missing legacy concepts, incomplete data, silent data loss, transformation defects, duplicate records, cross-domain dependencies, and reconciliation gaps.
  • Organize mock migration and load cycles.
  • Independently review reconciliation results.
  • Ensure validation activities are completed within cycle windows and defects are corrected before subsequent loads.
Governance and Cutover
  • Ensure migration activities comply with LANL data‑classification policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Translate security and compliance requirements into practical migration controls.
  • Establish controls for extraction, transfer, staging, transformation, validation, retention, and loading.
  • Maintain the migration cutover plan and coordinate activities with LANL and the System Integrator.
  • Support fallback, recovery, contingency planning, go/no‑go readiness, and post‑go‑live hypercare.
  • Provide independent migration risk assessments to program leadership.
Required Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, engineering, business systems, data management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Extensive relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
  • 15+ years of enterprise SAP data migration, ERP transformation, solution architecture, or related experience.
  • Experience leading large‑scale enterprise ERP migration programs.
  • Experience delivering a major S/4HANA implementation through design, build, testing, cutover, go‑live, and hypercare.
  • Experience working within or overseeing a major System Integrator.
  • Client-side architecture, advisory, or technical oversight experience.
  • Strong ability to communicate with executive, business, architecture, and engineering audiences.
Must-Have Qualifications
  • Advanced SAP S/4HANA data model expertise.
  • SAP Business Data Cloud experience.
  • Experience with SAP BDC connectors or related integration patterns.
  • Databricks, Snowflake, or comparable modern data-platform experience.
  • Large‑scale ERP migration and modernization experience.
  • Deep knowledge of source‑to‑target mapping, ETL, staging, transformation, cleansing, validation, reconciliation, and cutover.
  • Experience independently reviewing and challenging System Integrator recommendations.
  • Ability to translate technical issues into actionable program decisions.
  • Excellent written, verbal, facilitation, and executive presentation skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively with limited supervision in a senior advisory role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Oracle E-Business Suite or Oracle ODS experience.
  • Direct experience migrating from Oracle to SAP S/4HANA.
  • SAP Business Data Cloud and Databricks integration experience.
  • SAP BDC connector implementation experience.
  • Active SAP or Databricks certifications.
  • Experience with Snowflake.
  • Experience with cloud ERP and enterprise data modernization.
  • Experience in government, defense, utilities, healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceutical, financial services, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with data lineage, classification, retention, governance, and audit evidence.
Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidate will understand both the SAP target environment and the legacy enterprise data landscape. This person must be able to review complex S/4HANA data models, SAP Business Data Cloud architecture, Databricks integrations, transformation logic, and reconciliation results while clearly explaining their business impact to program leadership.

The successful candidate will be confident challenging a major System Integrator but will also recognize when its recommendations are sound. This individual should be practical, collaborative, delivery‑focused, and willing to remain involved in the day‑to‑day details of the migration.
