Headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, our over 50,000 employees around the globe take on complex challenges to discover and deliver life-changing medicines, strengthen how health is understood and managed, and support the communities we serve. This is hard, urgent, selfless workโ€”but itโ€™s work worth doing. If youโ€™re driven by purpose and ready to bring your best to work that truly matters for patients, we invite you to join us.

At Lilly, we unite caring with discovery to make life better for people around the world. We are a global healthcare leader headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. Our employees around the world work to discover and bring life-changing medicines to those who need them, improve the understanding and management of disease, and give back to our communities through philanthropy and volunteerism. We give our best effort to our work, and we put people first. Weโ€™re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.

Associate Director, Digital Knowledge Management & Data Strategy - Statistics, Data & Analytics Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Knowledge Management (KM) professional to lead data and knowledge initiatives within our global Statistics, Data & Analytics (SDnA) organization. This role will design and implement forward-thinking systems to collect, organize, and connect technical knowledge across functions, regions, and clinical development stages. It will also transform fragmented process documentation, procedures, and historical knowledge into a structured, searchable, dynamic knowledge repository with supporting systems and processes. Ultimately, this position will enhance efficiency, strengthen consistency, and reduce risk by making critical knowledge readily accessible to all employees within the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy & Vision: Own the multi-year strategy for how SDnA captures, curates, and shares its collective knowledge. Design and implement modern, queryable, AI-navigable systems on enterprise platforms that support easy internal access and secure collaboration.
  • System Implementation & Optimization: Build or optimize a centralized knowledge system for statistical, data management, and analytics resources. Apply enterprise platforms and best practices to ensure that procedures, process maps, and supporting materials are searchable by global teams.
  • Ontology, Data & Process Mapping: Develop a domain ontology and process maps that reflect current SDnA workflows and information architecture. Honor study lifecycle sequence, functional ownership, and regulatory constraints. Apply the appropriate technical tools (e.g., coding, automation, low-code platforms, visualization software) to categorize knowledge assets, surface redundancies, map processes, and identify gaps.
  • Standards & Quality: Set the standards for how knowledge is created, tagged, versioned, and retired. Establish the taxonomy and content lifecycle model, and design automated quality checks that keep content clean, concise, accurate, and compliant as the organization changes.
  • Change Management & Training: Lead change management to drive adoption of new systems and practices. Develop training programs, user guides, and support resources. Champion a culture of knowledge-sharing through regular communication and leadership support.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with statistics, data management, programming, regulatory, IT, and quality partners to align the system with business needs. Coordinate technical integrations and gather feedback from subjectโ€‘matter experts to continuously improve the system.
  • Continuous Improvement & Impact: Monitor usage metrics and key performance indicators (e.g., mostโ€‘accessed topics, search query success rates, content most in need of refresh, accuracy of content). Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and consistency, and maintain a vision for scaling knowledge management systems as the organization evolves.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • Experience: Demonstrated record of building scalable knowledge systems, drafting and implementing standards and procedures, and driving organizational adoption. Experience in knowledge management, information management, or data/analytics operations, with a focus on implementing KM systems.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree. Advanced degree is a plus.
  • Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a fullโ€‘time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization and/or visas for this role.
Other Information/Additional Preferences
  • Pharmaceutical or comparably regulated industry experience (roughly 5 years), including approximately 3 years in a KM-focused role.
  • Domain Knowledge: Understanding of the clinical data and analysis lifecycle and of the documents, workflows, and terminology used across them. This includes (but is not limited to) data standards, data management, statistical analysis and reporting, safety, and regulatory submission.
  • Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated ability to use technology for knowledge management. Handsโ€‘on proficiency with enterprise collaboration tools (e.g., SharePoint, document management systems) and scripting skills (Python preferred) for data analysis and automation. Familiarity with knowledge graphs, semantic retrieval, or AIโ€‘assisted approaches is a plus.
  • Standards & Governance Knowledge: Working knowledge of industryโ€‘standard information governance and dataโ€‘handling practices. Experience developing standards for content management, version control, and access.
  • Leadership & Communication: Excellent project leadership with experience motivating change management. Superior communication and interpersonal skills to train users and build strong connections with employees, IT partners, and external collaborators. Skilled at influencing and championing new ideas, leading through ambiguity with sound judgment and transparent decisionโ€‘making, and developing the capabilities of direct and indirect team members through structured coaching and honest feedback.
  • Industry Expertise: Prior experience leading knowledge management projects in a pharmaceutical, clinical research, or other regulated environment with global operations. Familiarity with emerging technologies, including AI, to enhance knowledge sharing.
  • Change Management Credentials: Formal training or certification in change management or process improvement (e.g., PROSCI, Six Sigma, Lean).
  • Cross-Functional Insight: Experience handling knowledge across multiple functions, regions, and time zones, coordinating with regional and global teams.
  • Strategic Vision: A forwardโ€‘looking approach with the ability to anticipate future knowledge needs and scalability requirements. Experience building solutions that have measurably improved efficiency or reduced risk.
Long-Term Impact

Success in this role will be measured by the creation of a scalable, efficient, and wellโ€‘governed knowledge sharing system for SDnA. The system this role builds will give SDnA employees fast, reliable access to accurate information, helping them navigate the study lifecycle and collaborate across functions and regions. Over time, this knowledge management system will reduce SDnAโ€™s operational risk by preserving institutional knowledge, resolving redundant efforts, and keeping content current and compliant as practices evolve. The ideal candidate will address immediate needs while laying a foundation for continuous improvement and innovation in the analytics function for years to come.
