Job description

Overview
The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) or Physician Associate (PA) diagnoses, treats and helps prevent mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Prescribes, directs and administers psychotherapeutic treatments and medications. Reviews, evaluates and collaborates with other professionals regarding treatment plans, client progress and outcomes. (This position may have a sub-population specialty such as pediatrics).
Responsibilities
Develops and maintains therapeutic client relationships with close adherence to client-directed services.
Determines nature and extent of mental disorder, and formulates treatment program.
Prescribes medication and performs other therapeutic measures for the treatment of psychiatric disorders
Explains and documents medication effects, risk-benefits associated with medication, and side-effects to client and/or guardian.
Thoroughly documents diagnosis, treatment and all aspects of such illness(es) in accordance with applicable OARs and industry standards. Provides timely, accurate documentation. Follows agency policy on documentation guidelines and timeliness.
Assesses symptoms and manages immediate crisis including danger to self or others, and implements crisis intervention plan if necessary.
Ensures documentation meets the standards for evaluation and management coding including identifying medical decision making. Notes are coded accurately.
Orders laboratory and other special diagnostic tests and evaluates data obtained.
Confers on the diagnosis and direction of treatment with client, significant others, agency clinicians, and with client's other treatment providers.
Participates in mental health and service utilization audits, peer review and quality assurance activities.
Reviews, approves and signs Treatment Plans and Assessments for assigned clients.
Facilitates referrals to appropriate internal and/or external resources where indicated.
Provides consultation and education services within the agency, to consumers and with community providers/partners as needed.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program and completion of psychiatric specialty program required or Physician Associate Studies from an accredited program.
Board certification may be required.
Maintain an active, unrestricted Oregon professional license with prescriptive privileges and current DEA registration.
Maintain professional liability insurance coverage.
Enroll as Medicare provider for Options through CMS and participate in other third-party payment programs as required.
Possess business experience sufficient to meet the demands of the position, including proficiency with a variety of software applications.
Travels between sites and is required to drive.
Must pass state-required background and DMV checks; possess a valid OR driver's license and a satisfactory driving record. Candidate must be able to work independently and flexibly, under general supervision.
