What is a Data Loading Analyst?

A Data Loading Analyst is a professional responsible for importing, validating, and managing large sets of data within an organization's databases or systems. They ensure that data from various sources is accurately loaded, transformed, and integrated according to business requirements. Their work helps maintain data integrity, support business intelligence activities, and facilitate smooth data migrations or system updates. Data Loading Analysts often collaborate with data engineers, IT teams, and business analysts to meet organizational data needs.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Loading Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Loading Analyst, you need a solid understanding of data management, ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes, and database concepts, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with data integration tools such as Informatica or Talend, and proficiency in SQL or other database querying languages, are commonly required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and strong communication skills help ensure data accuracy and effective collaboration with business and IT teams. These skills are essential for maintaining data integrity and supporting informed business decisions.

What are some common challenges faced by Data Loading Analysts when managing large data integration projects?

Data Loading Analysts often encounter challenges such as handling data inconsistencies, meeting tight deadlines for large-scale uploads, and ensuring data accuracy across multiple sources. Collaboration with IT teams and business stakeholders is crucial to resolve discrepancies and validate data mappings. Additionally, adapting to evolving data formats and troubleshooting loading errors are common parts of the role. Proactive communication and strong problem-solving skills can help mitigate these challenges and ensure smooth data integration.

Job description

Job Summary:
Milestone Technologies, Inc. is seeking a Senior level Data Analyst/Data Architect to support a critical enterprise data migration initiative, transitioning their data platform from Microsoft SQL Server to Snowflake. The role involves designing scalable data architectures, building robust migration pipelines, and enabling modern self-service analytics through tools like Tableau and Power BI.
Responsibilities:
• Lead end-to-end source-to-target mapping design for the SQL Server to Snowflake migration, including schema analysis, data profiling, and transformation logic documentation
• Architect Snowflake environments including database/schema structures, virtual warehouses, role-based access control (RBAC), and resource monitors
• Design and document data flow diagrams, lineage maps, and migration runbooks to ensure traceability and auditability throughout the migration lifecycle
• Define standards for naming conventions, data types, partitioning strategies, clustering keys, and time-travel/fail-safe policies in Snowflake
• Write and optimize complex T-SQL scripts to extract and transform data from SQL Server sources for ingestion into Snowflake
• Develop Snowflake SQL scripts, stored procedures, tasks, streams, and dynamic tables to implement transformation logic and incremental load patterns
• Build and maintain ELT pipelines leveraging tools such as dbt, Azure Data Factory, Fivetran, or Informatica for automated data movement
• Implement data validation and reconciliation scripts to verify source vs. target row counts, aggregates, and business rules post-migration
• Tune query performance in Snowflake through execution plan analysis, clustering optimization, and materialized view strategies
• Design and maintain dimensional models (star/snowflake schemas), OBT structures, and data vault patterns appropriate for Snowflake's architecture
• Collaborate with data stewards and business stakeholders to define data dictionaries, business glossaries, and metadata standards
• Establish data quality frameworks and implement automated profiling, anomaly detection, and SLA monitoring
• Design and develop Tableau dashboards and published data sources connected to Snowflake, optimizing live and extract connections for performance
• Build Power BI datasets, reports, and dashboards with DAX measures, row-level security, and deployment pipelines
• Translate business requirements into semantic layer designs (e.g., Tableau Published Data Sources, Power BI datasets) to enable self-service analytics
• Collaborate with analysts and business users to validate reporting outputs against source systems and ensure data accuracy
• Partner with data engineering, analytics, and business intelligence teams to ensure seamless handoffs and alignment throughout the migration lifecycle
• Produce comprehensive technical documentation including mapping specifications, architecture decision records (ADRs), and operational runbooks
• Present migration status, risks, and architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders including senior leadership
Qualifications:
Required:
• 10 years minimum of relevant work experience
• SQL Server, Tableau and Power BI
• Understand how integrations work (how data is integrated through ETL and API)
• Deep expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, including T-SQL, SSMS, SSIS, and performance tuning
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, including data loading (Snowpipe, COPY INTO), Snowflake SQL, tasks, streams, and administration
• Proven experience designing and executing source-to-target data mapping documentation for large-scale migration projects
• Strong proficiency in Tableau (Desktop, Server/Online) including advanced calculations, LOD expressions, and performance optimization
• Experience with Power BI including Power Query (M), DAX, data modeling, and Report Server or Power BI Service deployment
• Familiarity with ETL/ELT orchestration tools (Azure Data Factory, dbt, Fivetran, Matillion, or equivalent)
• Solid understanding of dimensional modeling, data warehousing principles, and data lake architectures
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation and present to diverse audiences
• BS required in Computer Science or Engineering
Preferred:
• Data certifications are nice to have
