Job Description:

*Note - This is a temporary role for approximately 18 months*

PURPOSE OF POSITION

To design, implement, and manage data architecture solutions ensuring data quality, accessibility, and security in support of the strategic business goals of the organization. To translate business requirements into data models, develop data management processes, and optimize data integration, ensuring data quality, and driving enterprise-wide data governance.

To collaborate closely with IT, analytics, and business stakeholders to align data systems with organizational needs and regulatory requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Architecture Design and Data Strategy:

Lead the architecture, design, and deployment of data solutions, ensuring they meet business and technical requirements.

Develop and implement data strategies that support business objectives and ensure data integrity of back-up and storage systems, security, and availability.

Design and maintain data models, ensuring they adhere to industry standards and best practices.

Develop and implement processes for extracting, transforming, and loading data (ETL) from various sources.

Oversee the integration of data systems, ensuring seamless data flow between different platforms and applications.

Governance & Artifact Management

Establish and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data quality, security and compliance with regulations (e.g. FIPPA, PIPEDA).

Maintain inventories of data assets, providing metadata and context to facilitate data discovery and usage

Collaboration and Communication:

Engage with business stakeholders, IT teams, and external vendors to gather requirements and provide updates on data architecture initiatives.

Work and collaborate with the Solution Architect on architecture artifacts and maintain the architecture repository.

Create and manage all high-quality architecture artifacts, maintain the architecture repository, and present them at the Architecture Review Board.

Evaluation and Problem Solving:

Regularly evaluate existing and emerging data technologies to recommend improvements and innovations.

Conduct thorough performance code review, create and review UML and sequence diagrams.

Monitor and optimize the performance of data systems to ensure they meet organizational needs.

Project Planning and Guidance:

Provide architectural guidance to project teams to ensure adherence to Data standards

Manage and mentor a team of data professionals, providing architectural guidance and support to ensure high-quality deliverables.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, Data Science, or equivalent experience

Certification in data architecture or related domains (e.g., CDMP, TOGAF).

7+ years of experience in data architecture, with a strong background in data modeling (e.g., relational, dimensional, NoSQL), database management, data processing, end-end data lifecycle and data integration.

System Integrator experience preferred.

Proficiency in data warehousing concepts and technologies and database management systems such as SQL, NoSQL, data warehousing, ETL tools, and cloud-based platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure), PowerBI.

Experience with data governance and security, understanding data privacy regulation, knowledge of metadata management, and data quality frameworks.

Experience working with big data technologies and data lake environments, including Hadoop, Spark, and other distributed systems.

Experience with data integration tools.

Experience with data governance and data quality management.

Knowledge and understanding of complex technology ecosystems (applications, middleware, data, infrastructure, network, web, etc.)

Knowledge of business process modeling, information resource management, business analysis, design and process re-engineering to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Excellent problem-solving skills to Identify and resolve issues related to data storage, access, and performance.

Proficiency in maintaining currency in the latest data management technologies, compliance requirements, and best practices.

Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills to present complex and highly technical issues, IT strategies and solutions to non-technical audiences.

Excellent communication and relationship management skills to work with business stakeholders, data engineers, and IT professionals to define data requirements, ensure alignment with business goals and provide expert guidance.

Outstanding attention to detail and the ability to discover small errors in complex code.
