What is a data integrity engineer?

Data Integrity Engineers are professionals responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data within an organization’s systems. They design and implement processes to prevent data corruption, loss, or unauthorized modification. These engineers work closely with database administrators, data analysts, and IT teams to monitor data flows, validate data quality, and enforce data governance policies. Their role is crucial in industries where high-quality data is essential for decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency.

What are some common challenges data integrity engineers face when ensuring data quality across large, complex systems?

Data Integrity Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing data consistency across multiple databases, identifying and resolving discrepancies caused by data migrations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, they must frequently collaborate with software developers and database administrators to implement automated validation processes and address data anomalies promptly. Staying updated with evolving best practices and tools is crucial, as data environments and requirements can change rapidly in large organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data integrity engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Integrity Engineer, you need strong analytical skills, a background in computer science or information systems, and experience with data management principles. Familiarity with database platforms (such as SQL), data validation tools, and knowledge of regulatory compliance standards are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help ensure data accuracy and facilitate collaboration across teams. These skills are critical for maintaining reliable, secure, and compliant data systems that support informed business decisions.

This is a high-impact role for an engineer who wants meaningful ownership of plant electrical reliability, motor and drive systems, and electrical compliance, while also partnering on instrumentation, automation, team leadership, and continuous improvement.
The work schedule for this role is Monday - Friday, 1st shift; however, on occasion, you may be required to work additional hours and on a call rotation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead efforts to improve electrical equipment reliability, minimize downtime, reduce breakdowns, and maximize plant productivity.
  • Own and improve preventive and predictive maintenance practices for electrical systems, while supporting instrumentation and control reliability programs.
  • Provide technical leadership in diagnosing and resolving complex electrical system issues, including motors, drives, power distribution, and related equipment.
  • Support troubleshooting, repair, and performance improvement of plant control and automation systems, including PLC and HMI platforms.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and failure investigations for significant equipment or process problems and implement corrective actions to improve reliability.
  • Develop performance expectations, standards, procedures, and audits; document findings; and establish corrective action plans.
  • Support electrical installations, upgrades, and capital or construction projects, while also partnering on control-related project work as needed.
  • Provide technical assistance for complex electrical and instrumentation issues, ensuring safe, efficient, and sustainable solutions.
  • Ensure all safety requirements are met and that I&E technicians have the materials, tools, and equipment needed to work effectively and safely.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to intrinsic safety and explosion-proof classifications, electrical specifications, and equipment selection.
  • Troubleshoot motor systems, direct drive systems, and VFD applications, including specification and selection of replacement components.
  • Support troubleshooting, installation, and repair of valves, actuators, field instruments, and related process control devices.
  • Collaborate with reliability and maintenance partners to ensure calibration compliance and reliable performance of field instrumentation.
  • Maintain current and accurate P&IDs, wiring diagrams, electrical drawings, and instrument loop documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, NEC, local regulations, and site procedures to prevent accidents and maintain safe electrical work practices.
  • Collaborate on audits, safety observations, 5S initiatives, needs assessments, and routine management activities to identify improvement opportunities and solve problems.
  • Supervise, train, mentor, and direct I&E technicians while promoting quality, accountability, and safe work execution.
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, management, and external vendors to resolve issues, support system improvements, and coordinate equipment or service needs.
  • Track direct report hours, absences, vacations, and support performance review activities as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering field.
  • 5+ years of industrial experience with strong exposure to electrical systems, equipment reliability, or maintenance engineering.
  • Working knowledge of electrical safety and compliance requirements, including NFPA 70E, NEC, and related industrial standards.
  • Experience supporting or leading preventive and predictive maintenance programs for electrical, instrumentation, and/or control systems.
  • Hands-on experience in root cause failure analysis and using data or KPIs to improve equipment reliability performance.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, ownership, and independent judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence team members in a plant environment.
