Data Integrity Engineer information

What is a data integrity engineer?

Data Integrity Engineers are professionals responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data within an organization’s systems. They design and implement processes to prevent data corruption, loss, or unauthorized modification. These engineers work closely with database administrators, data analysts, and IT teams to monitor data flows, validate data quality, and enforce data governance policies. Their role is crucial in industries where high-quality data is essential for decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency.

What are some common challenges data integrity engineers face when ensuring data quality across large, complex systems?

Data Integrity Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing data consistency across multiple databases, identifying and resolving discrepancies caused by data migrations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, they must frequently collaborate with software developers and database administrators to implement automated validation processes and address data anomalies promptly. Staying updated with evolving best practices and tools is crucial, as data environments and requirements can change rapidly in large organizations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data integrity engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Integrity Engineer, you need strong analytical skills, a background in computer science or information systems, and experience with data management principles. Familiarity with database platforms (such as SQL), data validation tools, and knowledge of regulatory compliance standards are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help ensure data accuracy and facilitate collaboration across teams. These skills are critical for maintaining reliable, secure, and compliant data systems that support informed business decisions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

This role tackles the challenge of maintaining high-availability storage infrastructure within a mission-critical spacecraft operations environment. The Senior Engineer ensures seamless data flow and storage reliability, as well as data protection, preventing downtime that could jeopardize active missions. By automating complex workflows and upgrading legacy hardware, this position bridges the gap between traditional data center management and modern, scalable infrastructure-as-code architectures.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives)

  • Maintain 99.9% uptime for mission-critical production data center storage systems through proactive fault management and resolution
  • Accelerate deployment cycles by developing infrastructure automation and configuration management scripts, shifting the team toward a "storage-as-code" model
  • Optimize performance and security by leading end-to-end software and hardware upgrades for Dell, Pure, and Cisco MDS infrastructure
  • Design storage requirements in collaboration with Spacecraft Engineering teams to ensure data accessibility and integrity for satellite operations
  • Leverage AI-driven predictive analytics and storage monitoring tools to identify capacity trends and potential hardware failures before they impact production
  • Drive the adoption of DevOps and SRE principles within the storage stack to streamline CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure resilience
  • Collaborate with primary systems and network engineers to develop the expertise required to serve as a backup administrator for essential systems.
  • Participate in the identification and resolution of basic software, network, and RF problems, utilizing escalation protocols when appropriate
  • Contribute to talent development by participating in onboarding and providing occasional mentorship and task guidance to interns or junior engineers
  • Participate in 24x7 on-call responsibilities on a rotational basis
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Core Skills and Competencies (What you’ll bring)

  • Proficiency in designing, deploying, and maintaining Cisco MDS fiber channel storage fabrics and zoning
  • Familiarity with VMware environments and the management of storage resources within vSphere environments
  • Basic development skills using PowerShell, Python, or GoLang
  • Experience with Linux and Windows Server administration within an Active Directory environment
  • Ability to lead multiple technical projects simultaneously

Additional Qualifications

  • Preferred candidates will have experience administering Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) Namespaces and Replication in an enterprise setting
  • Preferred candidates will have deep technical experience with VMware vSphere Virtualization technologies
  • Basic experience with Data Protection and Backup software such as Veeam
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as SALT, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
  • Foundational understanding of GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native architecture
