What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data integrity engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Integrity Engineer, you need strong analytical skills, a background in computer science or information systems, and experience with data management principles. Familiarity with database platforms (such as SQL), data validation tools, and knowledge of regulatory compliance standards are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and effective communication help ensure data accuracy and facilitate collaboration across teams. These skills are critical for maintaining reliable, secure, and compliant data systems that support informed business decisions.

What is a data integrity engineer?

Data Integrity Engineers are professionals responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data within an organization’s systems. They design and implement processes to prevent data corruption, loss, or unauthorized modification. These engineers work closely with database administrators, data analysts, and IT teams to monitor data flows, validate data quality, and enforce data governance policies. Their role is crucial in industries where high-quality data is essential for decision-making, compliance, and operational efficiency.

What are some common challenges data integrity engineers face when ensuring data quality across large, complex systems?

Data Integrity Engineers often encounter challenges such as managing data consistency across multiple databases, identifying and resolving discrepancies caused by data migrations, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, they must frequently collaborate with software developers and database administrators to implement automated validation processes and address data anomalies promptly. Staying updated with evolving best practices and tools is crucial, as data environments and requirements can change rapidly in large organizations.

Our diverse and growing team offers the chance to solve complex technical challenges, collaborate with talented professionals, and directly contribute to the technology and services that enable the Government's mission around the world.

This role will support enterprise data modernization initiatives focused on ingesting, transforming, validating and integrating operational data into enterprise systems supporting critical national security applications and systems. The ideal candidate will help design and implement automated workflows for ingesting structured spreadsheet data into enterprise databases, converting source data into JSON representations, validating data integrity and supporting integration into Pega-based workflows and reporting ecosystems. This position requires a technically versatile engineer capable of working across data pipelines, enterprise systems, reporting integrations and automation workflows while collaborating closely with developers, architects, system administrators and mission stakeholders. Successful candidates demonstrate strong ownership, initiative and sound technical judgment while working within established architectural, security and operational frameworks. The ideal candidate is capable of independently driving tasks forward, identifying gaps or risks, proposing solutions and collaborating across technical teams without requiring continuous direction or oversight.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Support ingestion of spreadsheet-based datasets into enterprise databases and applications
  • Develop and maintain data transformation workflows that normalize and convert structured data into formats required for system integration and data exchange.
  • Validate and troubleshoot data ingestion pipelines to ensure data integrity and operational accuracy
  • Support integration of enterprise data into Pega workflows and applications serving as systems of record
  • Collaborate with development and architecture teams to improve automation, scalability and maintainability of ingestion workflows
  • Assist with development of reporting and downstream data consumption strategies
  • Support troubleshooting, analysis and resolution of data-related operational issues
  • Work with stakeholders to understand data requirements, mappings and validation criteria
  • Participate in modernization and automation initiatives across enterprise services
  • Document data flows, interfaces, transformation logic and operational procedures

Required Qualifications

  • TS/SCI with Polygraph
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and fourteen (14) years of related experience as a Systems Engineer, Software Engineer, Data Engineer or equivalent technical role. Nineteen (19) years of experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
  • Experience working with structured data formats including JSON, CSV and Excel-based datasets
  • Experience supporting data ingestion, transformation or ETL-style workflows
  • Experience writing automation scripts or utilities using Python or similar scripting languages
  • Experience troubleshooting data quality and validation issues
  • Familiarity with relational databases and SQL
  • Ability to work across technical teams and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Must be able to work during core hours of M-F 10am-2pm. Exceptions will be considered on a case-by-case basis

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience supporting Pega applications or enterprise workflow platforms
  • Experience building or supporting ETL/data ingestion pipelines
  • Experience with API integrations and data exchange services
  • Experience with data validation frameworks or schema validation
  • Familiarity with enterprise reporting ecosystems and downstream analytics integrations
  • Experience with automation technologies including RPA or scripting frameworks
  • Understanding of enterprise data governance and system-of-record concepts
  • Ability to clearly communicate ambiguous or highly complex concepts to all audiences
  • Ability to understand the big picture and align day-to-day technical activities to enterprise mission outcomes
