Summary
The Manager of Data and Engineering lead the technical development, reliability, architecture, and governance of the health systemโ€™s enterprise data environment. This role oversees enterprise data platforms, integrations, data pipelines, data models, and technical infrastructure supporting reporting, analytics, financial planning, and organizational decision-making. The position partners closely with Information Technology, Business Intelligence, Finance, clinical, and operational teams to ensure enterprise data is reliable, secure, scalable, well-governed, and available for organizational use.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Enterprise Platforms
  • Own the architecture, development, and technical administration of the enterprise data warehouse, lake house, and related analytical data platforms.
  • Establish scalable data architecture and modeling standards supporting enterprise reporting, analytics, financial planning, and decision support.
  • Lead development and maintenance of enterprise data models, data marts, reusable data structures, and shared analytical datasets.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to enterprise data architecture, platforms, tools, and technical capabilities.
  • Reduce redundant data structures, unsupported solutions, unnecessary data movement, and technical debt.
Data Engineering & Integration
  • Lead development and maintenance of ETL/ELT pipelines, SQL objects, integrations, interfaces, and automated data-processing workflows.
  • Manage data feeds from Epic, Axiom, Premier, payroll, financial, workforce, clinical, operational, and other enterprise systems.
  • Establish standards for data ingestion, transformation, reconciliation, validation, and integration.
  • Ensure data pipelines and integrations are reliable, efficient, maintainable, and appropriately monitored.
  • Troubleshoot complex data integration, performance, availability, and processing issues.
Analytics & Business Intelligence Technical Enablement
  • Provide the technical data foundation supporting enterprise Business Intelligence, Finance, operational analytics, and organizational reporting.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence on shared datasets, semantic-model architecture, gateways, refresh processes, deployments, and reporting performance.
  • Support technical requirements for budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting, productivity reporting, management reporting, service-line analysis, and other analytical functions.
  • Develop reusable data assets that enable standardized reporting and governed self service analytics.
  • Ensure analytical platforms and technical solutions can scale with organizational reporting and data needs.
Data Governance, Reliability & Technical Standards
  • Ensure data availability, platform reliability, data lineage, technical documentation, and appropriate monitoring of enterprise data environments.
  • Establish development, testing, source-control, deployment, release-management, and change management standards.
  • Establish technical data-quality controls and processes for identifying and resolving data issues.
  • Maintain documentation of data architecture, integrations, pipelines, models, business rules, dependencies, and technical processes.
  • Partner with Information Technology on information security, infrastructure, access management, backup, business continuity, and disaster recovery.
  • Support compliance with organizational data-governance, security, privacy, and technology standards.
Leadership & Operational Partnerships
  • Supervise, develop, and prioritize the work of assigned data engineering, developer, and technical staff.
  • Build technical capabilities through coaching, mentoring, documentation, cross-training, and professional development.
  • Establish technical priorities based on organizational strategy, business requirements, system dependencies, and available resources.
  • Partner with Business Intelligence to ensure business requirements are translated into sustainable technical solutions.
  • Partner with FP&A to support financial planning, cost accounting, productivity, and management-reporting data requirements.
  • Partner with Information Technology and application teams regarding infrastructure, source systems, security, integrations, and technical architecture.
  • Communicate technical risks, dependencies, resource requirements, and recommendations to leadership.

Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree computer science, information systems, data engineering, or a related field and 5 or more years relevant experience

Required:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, or a related field
  • Five years of experience in data engineering, database development, data warehousing, or business intelligence.
  • Previous supervisory, technical-lead, or project-lead experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL, ETL/ELT, data modeling, and enterprise reporting platforms.
Preferred:
  • Experience working with healthcare data.
  • Experience with Epic Clarity, Caboodle, Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Axiom, or Premier.
  • Masterโ€™s degree or relevant technical certification.
