SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:
Northern Bank is advancing its enterprise data capabilities to support improved decision-making, operational efficiency, regulatory compliance, and responsible innovation. Enterprise Data Management (EDM) operates as a service-oriented function, partnering across business and technology teams to deliver trusted data, consistent reporting, and strong governance practices across the enterprise.
We are seeking a Data Governance Analyst to support and strengthen the Bankโ€™s enterprise data governance program. This role will work closely with business stakeholders, data owners, data stewards, risk partners, and technology teams to improve data quality, establish governance standards, document critical data elements, and promote consistent use of data across the organization. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, regulated environment while helping drive accountability and data trust across the enterprise.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Support the execution of enterprise data governance initiatives across business and technology teams to improve the quality, consistency, and accountability of data assets.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining governance processes related to data ownership, stewardship, classification, quality, lineage, and metadata.
  • Work effectively in a regulated environment, ensuring governance activities align with enterprise policies, control standards, and compliance expectations.
  • Facilitate collaboration across stakeholders to promote common definitions, data standards, and consistent use of critical data.
  • Help drive transparency and accountability for data-related issues, controls, and remediation efforts.
  • Adapt to evolving tools, regulatory expectations, and business needs while maintaining consistent governance practices.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support implementation and ongoing administration of the enterprise data governance framework, including policies, standards, roles, and procedures.
  • Partner with data owners, data stewards, business units, IT, and risk partners to define and maintain critical data elements, business glossaries, and data lineage documentation.
  • Assist in monitoring and improving data quality by identifying issues, documenting root causes, tracking remediation, and coordinating with stakeholders on corrective actions.
  • Maintain and enhance governance documentation, including data definitions, ownership assignments, standards, issue logs, and control inventories.
  • Support governance forums, working groups, and review meetings by preparing materials, documenting decisions, and tracking follow-up items.
  • Help enforce consistency in data definitions, usage, and control practices across systems, reports, and business processes.
  • Contribute to metadata management activities, including cataloging key data assets and supporting traceability across source systems and reporting outputs.
  • Coordinate with reporting, analytics, and technology teams to ensure governed data is aligned with enterprise priorities and business needs.
  • Support policy adherence and control readiness by assisting with audits, exams, risk assessments, and internal reviews related to data governance.
  • Provide reporting and metrics on governance program maturity, data quality trends, issue resolution progress, and stewardship engagement.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data quality, business analysis, risk, compliance, or a related function.
  • Experience working with data in banking or financial services preferred, including awareness of regulatory, control, and reporting expectations.
  • Understanding of core data governance practices, including data ownership, stewardship, metadata, lineage, data quality, and policy standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify data issues and support practical remediation efforts.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across business and technology teams.
  • Ability to translate data-related concepts into clear, actionable language for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications; familiarity with data governance, metadata, or reporting tools is a plus.
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Information Systems, Business, Data Management, Finance, or a related field.
NICE TO HAVES (OR THINGS YOUโ€™LL GET TO LEARN):
  • Experience with data governance or metadata tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Informatica, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with data quality monitoring, issue management, and control documentation.
  • Exposure to report governance, master data management, or enterprise data catalog initiatives.
  • Understanding of data lifecycle management, retention, classification, and privacy-related considerations.
  • Experience supporting governance programs in a matrixed or highly regulated environment.
