Job Description
Location: London, GB
Conde Nast thrives on collaboration, and our teams come together in the office four days a week (Monday - Thursday).
We value diversity of background, views and cultures. We celebrate people for their personal qualities, skills and contributions, recognising the power our brands have to influence and shape culture.
Purpose
We are looking for someone who enjoys understanding how data moves through modern data platforms and who wants to help shape how it is governed. You will work closely with Product, Engineering, Audience, Commercial and Legal teams to ensure that data is collected, classified, accessed and used in a way that is secure, well governed and compliant, particularly as data is increasingly used for self-service analytics and AI. The role focuses on embedding governance and compliance into technical delivery rather than reviewing it afterwards.
Modern data platforms and self-service analytics require governance to be considered during design rather than after implementation. The role helps define practical governance standards around data access, classification, data flows and technical controls, ensuring they can be implemented by Engineering teams and understood by business users. You will help define those standards and work with teams to put them into practice.
As part of the Data Governance team, you will support Engineering, Product, Technology and Legal colleagues in initiatives that improve trust in our data, reduce operational and regulatory risk, plus enable teams to use data confidently.
The role combines platform governance, technical privacy, data mapping and stakeholder engagement. You will work across Engineering, Product, Commercial and Legal teams to understand how data moves through our systems, translate governance requirements into technical controls and ensure that data products are built on reliable foundations. Success in the role depends on curiosity, strong technical understanding and the ability to work comfortably across Product, Engineering, Commercial and Legal teams.
Responsibilities:
Platform Governance
  • Work with Product and Technology to define governance standards for data platforms, covering access, governance controls and platform configuration.
  • Define governance requirements for data access, classification, ownership and lifecycle management.
  • Help establish governance standards for business-facing datasets, ensuring clear ownership, semantic definitions and appropriate usage boundaries.
  • Support governance of AI and self-service analytics use cases by ensuring data products are suitable for responsible use.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering during solution design to ensure governance, privacy and data quality requirements are considered before implementation.

Technical Governance & Privacy
  • Lead technical privacy reviews across websites, mobile applications and backend services.
  • Review data collection, cookies, pixels, SDKs, APIs and server-side implementations.
  • Translate legal and governance requirements into technical controls and implementation guidance.
  • Review consent implementations and ensure user choices are correctly enforced across analytics and advertising technologies.
  • Support vendor assessments and technical reviews of third-party technologies.

Data Mapping & Governance Operations
  • Own end-to-end data mapping and maintain accurate records of systems, vendors, data elements and processing activities.
  • Support Records of Processing Activities, Data Protection Impact Assessments and regulatory documentation.
  • Maintain governance documentation including data standards, classifications, lineage and governance operating procedures.
  • Drive improvements to governance workflows and identify opportunities for automation.

Monitoring & Assurance
  • Operate governance monitoring processes using tools such as Didomi, Privado and ObservePoint.
  • Validate tracking behaviour, consent enforcement and data transmission on cookies, pixels and other trackers.
  • Investigate governance gaps and work with Engineering teams to deliver remediation.
  • Monitor implementation quality and ensure governance controls continue to operate as intended.

Stakeholder Partnership
  • Partner with Product teams early in delivery to ensure governance requirements are understood before implementation.
  • Work closely with Engineering teams to ensure technical implementations align with governance standards.
  • Support Business & Legal Affairs during regulatory reviews, investigations and audit activity.
  • Explain technical data flows and governance decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Skills and Experience
We welcome candidates from a range of technical backgrounds. Previous experience within a Data Governance team is helpful but not essential. Ideal backgrounds include: Privacy Engineering, Analytics Engineering, Ad Tech, Solutions Architecture, Technical Data Governance, Data Engineering, MarTech, Implementation Consulting.
You should also have:
  • At least 5 years of experience in data privacy, data governance or ad tech within digital media environments, including web and mobile data collection.
  • Strong understanding of how websites, mobile applications and APIs collect and transmit data.
  • Experience working with platforms such as Databricks, Snowplow, Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics or similar technologies.
  • Experience reviewing data flows and technical implementations, from front end collection to backend systems and third party vendors.
  • Working knowledge of consent management platforms and frameworks such as TCF. Ability to validate consent signals on analytics and advertising tech.
  • Understanding of metadata, lineage, data classification and governance standards such as schema design, data standards and classification.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR, CCPA and modern privacy principles, with the ability to translate requirements into practical technical controls.
  • Experience working across Technology, Product, Engineering and Legal teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Curiosity about how data systems work and a desire to improve how organisations govern data.
