The Youth Recovery Homes are committed to providing a safe, structured, and supportive environment for male adolescents ages 13 to 17 who are working toward recovery and personal growth. Through individual, group, and family counseling, educational support, and experiential activities, the program helps youth address substance use, impulsivity, aggression, and behaviors connected to traumatic experiences. By involving families and caretakers in the recovery process, the Youth Recovery Homes strive to promote healing, accountability, emotional wellness, and long-term positive change.

Community Work-Study Program
The Community Work-Study Program (CWS) provides federal financial aid eligible students the opportunity to work part-time at nonprofit organizations that serve the public interest.

Position Overview
The Work Study will provide clerical and administrative support for SCAN's Youth Recovery Homes. This position is responsible for assisting with general office operations, including filing, data entry, maintaining logs and databases, word processing, answering phones, greeting visitors, directing calls, and supporting admission paperwork. The work study will also assist with program information, follow SCAN policies and procedures, and complete other duties as assigned by the Program Director or immediate supervisor.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform receptionist duties, including answering telephone calls, directing calls to the appropriate staff member, greeting visitors, and providing general information about SCAN programs and services.
  • Assist with general office operations, including filing, scanning, copying, faxing, word processing, data entry, and organizing program materials.
  • Maintain accurate logs, databases, files, and client-related documentation in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist staff with admission paperwork, intake materials, and other program-support documents.
  • Review documents for completeness and notify the appropriate staff member of missing or incomplete information.
  • Assist with maintaining organized and secure electronic and physical records.
  • Support staff with preparing reports, correspondence, forms, informational materials, and other administrative documents.
  • Provide professional and respectful customer service when interacting with staff, clients, families, program participants, visitors, and community partners.
  • Follow SCAN policies and procedures related to confidentiality, professional conduct, client safety, staff safety, and facility operations.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all client, family, personnel, and organizational information.
  • Participate in required meetings, orientations, and program trainings.
  • Maintain a professional attitude and positive working relationships with staff, clients, families, and program participants.
  • Report to work on time, follow the assigned work schedule, and communicate promptly regarding absences or scheduling concerns.
  • Operate standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, printers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Program Director or immediate supervisor to support the daily operation and mission of the Youth Recovery Homes.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Students pursuing a degree in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice, or a related field.
  • Interest in working in a nonprofit, youth-services, behavioral health, recovery-support, or residential-program setting.
  • Previous clerical, administrative, customer service, volunteer, or community-service experience.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • Experience working with confidential information, maintaining records, or assisting with office operations is a plus.

Minimum Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older due to program and facility requirements.
  • Enrolled at least half-time (6 credit hours per semester for undergraduates, 3 credit hours for graduates).
  • Maintain a TAMIU overall GPA of 2.0 for undergraduate students and 3.0 for graduate students.
  • Must have a current and complete file with the Office of Financial Aid.
  • Must demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA application annually.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen with an alien registration number.
  • Must meet all other requirements as stated in TAMIU's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy (SAPP).
