Data Entry Support information

What is data entry support?

Data Entry Support refers to professionals who are responsible for entering, updating, and maintaining data in computer systems and databases. Their primary tasks include accurately inputting information from various sources, verifying data for accuracy, and ensuring data integrity. Data Entry Support roles are essential in organizations that need to process large amounts of information efficiently and without errors. These positions often require attention to detail, proficiency with office software, and strong organizational skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as data entry support?

To thrive as a Data Entry Support, you need fast and accurate typing skills, attention to detail, and familiarity with basic office software, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Proficiency in data management systems, spreadsheet applications like Microsoft Excel, and CRM platforms is typically required. Strong organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to work independently are essential soft skills for this role. These competencies ensure data integrity, minimize errors, and support efficient business operations.

What are some common challenges faced by data entry support professionals, and how can they be managed effectively?

Data Entry Support professionals often encounter challenges such as repetitive tasks, maintaining accuracy under time constraints, and managing large volumes of information. Staying focused and developing efficient workflows can help minimize errors and boost productivity. Using keyboard shortcuts, regularly double-checking entries, and taking short breaks to avoid fatigue are practical strategies. Additionally, communicating with team members about unclear data or process updates helps maintain data integrity and supports a collaborative work environment.

Job description

The DPH Infectious Disease Section Informatics Program has oversight of the surveillance system, CTEDSS, where the majority of Connecticut reportable provider and laboratory reports are maintained. These reports are crucial for surveillance epidemiologists to identify cases of disease, conduct case follow up and management, and be able to categorize diseases correctly for reporting to CDC and DPH reporting.
The extreme volume of reports during the COVID-19 pandemic response has resulted in a backlog of cases that require deduplication - person deduplication using tools such as Accruint/Lexis-Nexis and case level deduplication. Other data management assistance is required such as being sure that certain key data elements are populated for all cases being reported. This identification is made by Informatics Program staff who prepare lists of cases that need to be reviewed and corrected.
Full-time Informatics staff require assistance to be able to manage this deduplication backlog and keep up with other data entry. We are looking to hire 4 contractors who have data entry or business analyst experience to assist for 6 months (January 8 to June 30, 2024). Persons with some experience or background in healthcare, public health, or data management would be a plus. To obtain the most qualified candidates we are open to other job titles. These 6 months may be extended for up to 18 months. Remote work is an option.
