About the Organization:

The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) is an Indigenous governed, Indigenous led regional social planning and development organization. The BANAC service region now covers Simcoe County, Muskoka, and York region. BANAC works in cooperation with Indigenous communities and non-Indigenous organizations to address community-identified priorities through coordinated planning, implementation and evaluation. BANAC has a mandate to support the continued promotion of Indigenous lifelong learning and community wellness through self-determination and community participation. 

BANAC offers many innovative programs and services including Aging Well Senior Supports, Bebminot Family Wellness, the Biinoojinsauk Child Care Centre, Maapii Enjii Zaagi Gaazwad and the Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin Indigenous Interprofessional Primary Care Team.  Mamaway Wiidokdaadwin offers a wholistic approach to wellness that includes traditional healing practices in primary care, community clinics, addiction and recovery services, counselling programs, midwifery, land-based healing programs, and community health promotion. 


About the Role:


This position operates within an Indigenous-led and Indigenous-governed organization that is accountable to the communities it serves. Work is grounded in the principle of Indigenous Health in Indigenous Hands and guided by values of respect, reciprocity, and wholism. All employees participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety training and ongoing reflexive practice.


 This position is being posted in response to an existing vacancy at the Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle.


The Health Information Coordinator supports the Operations Team by maintaining and optimizing BANAC’s EMR and digital data systems. This role focuses on hands-on system administration, data quality, reporting support, and user training to ensure systems are reliable, well-organized, and effective for service delivery and decision-making.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in health informatics or digital health who enjoys strengthening systems that support community-based care, service delivery aligns with the values of respect, reciprocity, and wholism that guide the organization’s work.

EMR Maintenance and Administration

  • Provide day-to-day maintenance and administration of the Telus PS Suite EMR, ensuring the system is organized, up-to-date, and functioning as an effective tool for data collection and reporting.
  • Configure new user accounts in the EMR, manage access levels, and conduct offboarding as directed.
  • Build and maintain custom forms, templates, and data entry tools within the EMR to support standardized data collection.
  • Conduct routine data cleaning within the EMR to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency of records.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance and administration of the Ocean platform (online booking, forms, appointment reminders) and other third-party digital health tools.
  • Liaise with IT service providers regarding network accounts for onboarding and offboarding.
  • Conduct routine privacy and access audits in the EMR.

Reporting and Data Support

  • Pull custom reports from the EMR and other data systems as requested by the Director of Research and Evaluation or the Health Information Specialist.
  • Maintain dashboards, databases, and reporting tools to support ongoing funder and internal reporting requirements.
  • Run regular data feedback reports and data checking routines to support data quality and integrity.
  • Support the preparation of data for funder reporting, AGM materials, annual operating planning, and funding proposals as directed.
  • Assist with data entry, data verification, and data validation tasks to support the team’s reporting obligations.
  • Identify and flag data quality issues for review by the Specialist or Director of Research and Evaluation.

Training and User Support

  • Coordinate and deliver internal EMR training sessions to support standardized data entry practices across the organization.
  • Develop training materials and job aids to help staff use the EMR and related digital tools effectively.
  • Provide day-to-day technical support to EMR users, escalating issues to the Specialist or vendor as needed.
  • Participate in regional user groups related to EMR and data management best practices.

Digital Health Tools Support

  • Assist with the implementation and configuration of new digital health tools as directed.
  • Support the integration of third-party tools (e.g., AI Scribe, Ocean eReferral, online booking) with the EMR.
  • Liaise with vendors and healthcare partners as directed to support improvements to digital health systems.

Professional Development

  • Participate in professional development activities to enhance knowledge and skills related to data systems, health informatics, and Indigenous health.

What You Bring:

  • Indigenous persons are strongly encouraged to apply and self-identify and will be given preference in accordance with legislation and organizational policy
  • Diploma or degree in Health Informatics, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Health Administration, or a related field
  • 1–3 years’ experience in a healthcare or data-focused role, including experience working with EMR systems
  • Experience with Telus PS Suite EMR is considered a strong asset
  • Experience building reports, forms, or templates within an EMR or similar system
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SharePoint, and Office 365
  • Familiarity with healthcare data privacy and governance standards (e.g., PHIPA)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and address data quality issues
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to support and train users
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment
  • Experience working in Indigenous health, community-based settings, or applying culturally grounded approaches to data is considered a strong asset

  • BANAC work site locations are periodically exposed to smoke due to the burning of sacred medicines: tobacco, sweet grass, sage and / or cedar.
