Job description

Municipal Resources, Inc. (MRI) has provided services to local governments throughout New England since 1989 and is seeking a detail-oriented Municipal Payroll Clerk to join our outsourced payroll division supporting municipal clients.

Position Summary: The Municipal Payroll Clerk performs payroll processing and support functions for multiple municipal clients. This role requires strong attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment.

Essential Functions

  • Review time records for accuracy and completeness
  • Compile payroll data including garnishments, PTO, insurance, and related items
  • Input and maintain employee information in payroll systems
  • Adjust timecard entries as needed
  • Calculate retroactive pay when applicable
  • Respond promptly to employee and client payroll inquiries and resolve issues
  • Maintain and update employee, payroll, and benefits records
  • Accurately track paid time off for eligible employees
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of payroll information
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Flexible and able to work independently
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in customer service and data entry required
  • Payroll experience preferred but not required
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, management, and coworkers

Work Environment: This is a remote position requiring occasional in-person meetings at the main office in Plymouth, NH and periodic travel to municipal client locations.
