Job Summary
The Workforce Development Counselor has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, providing information and assistance to prospective students and representing the department at events. This is a full-time position that reports to the Workforce Development and Continuing Education Department.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Represent LSCPA at various outreach programs through presentation, information tables, college fairs and other events
  • Provide enrollment guidance for students exploring entry into workforce training of any type
  • Track student performance by phone, emails, and other forms of contact
  • Complete data entry duties and report writing
  • Recruit students for training
  • Maintain working relationship with community and workforce solutions representatives, companies that partner with LSCPA to provide training, and other sources of student referrals
  • Recommend, design, and create recruiting and marketing strategies
  • Develop an understanding of the Banner Student Information Systems and Argos reports to document, track, and identify students' admissions and enrollment status
  • Assist with office functions including record keeping, phone calls, filing, organization, reports, etc.
  • Comply with campus policies and procedures
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • One (1) year experience providing college counseling or student services related to higher education
  • Experience working with organizations/programs such as; Texas Workforce Commission, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience with Ellucian Banner ERP software
  • Bilingual in Spanish

Supplemental Information
Physical Requirements:
This position requires employees to remain in a stationary position most of the time; move to various locations on campus; move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; and operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
Social Requirements:
This position is student facing and requires extensive social contact. Employees must be prepared to work closely with students, work closely with employers (both in person and by phone), be active in job fairs and recruiting fairs, and to present program related materials in public venues.
Travel:
Primary office will be on the main campus in Port Arthur, but duties may include travel to offsite locations and branch campuses. Other occasional travel may be required.
Work Hours:
Monday - Friday; 40 hours per week May require occasional early morning, evening or weekend hours.
