Job Summary:
The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. This role applies an advanced level of subject matter knowledge to solve a variety of common and complex business issues, working on problems/projects of diverse complexity and scope, while providing mentorship to other engineers.
Responsibilities:
• Participates as a member of a data engineering team; mentors and guides other engineers.
• Performs analysis of technical requirements of high complexity.
• Designs and develops solutions of high complexity.
• Completes technical work individually or through/with other data engineers.
• Leads design and outcome reviews.
• Designs, prepares and executes manual and/or automated test plans and scripts.
• Applies in-depth or broad technical knowledge of data engineering to provide maintenance and support of solutions across multiple areas.
• Represents team to leadership, business, and technical partners.
• Demonstrates technical leadership and exerts influence beyond immediate team.
• Develops innovative architectural solutions to complex problems.
• Integrates technical expertise and business understanding to create superior solutions for company and customers.
• Manages work completed by Vendors for specific initiatives.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor's Degree (B.A. or B.S.) from 4 year college or university
• 5+ years data engineering experience and/or training
• Advanced understanding of data engineering, filling the role of Subject Matter Expert (SME), and owning issue escalations of the highest complexity.
• Proficient in one or more programming languages such as Python or SQL.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Databricks, SQL, and Data Modeling.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, contributing to team design activities and documentation.
• Can apply critical thinking skills to solving problems and a strong technical aptitude.
Preferred:
• Experience in data collection from sensors and monitoring systems installed on industrial machinery within a manufacturing facility is ideal but not required.
• Experience delivering data solutions through agile software development methodologies is ideal but not required.
• Experience with infrastructure as code such as Terraform is ideal but not required.
