Job description

Job Title: Restraint Engineer – Interior System

Location: Novi, Michigan

Onsite/ Remote: Day 1 Onsite at customer location

Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Development

Lead and support the development of interior restraint systems through all phases (concept to production).

Modify components to meet engineering, design, and safety requirements in alignment with Engineering direction.

Ensure compliance with all restraint system performance and regulatory requirements.

Utilize CATIA to review designs, create sections, and analyze data.

Supplier & System Integration

Collaborate with suppliers to ensure proper data upload into VW systems.

Drive part updates and design changes to improve:

Manufacturing feasibility

Component performance

System integration

Ensure supplier tooling timelines align with program deliverables.

Validation & Testing

Support and lead DV (Design Validation) and PV (Product Validation) testing activities.

Analyze test results and lead root cause analysis and issue resolution.

Ensure timely closure of all open restraint-related issues.

Build Support

Support:

Supplier builds

On-site Scout builds

Provide hands-on engineering support during build phases.

Drive resolution of issues identified during prototype and production builds.

Release & Quality

Obtain and manage B-Release for restraint system components.

Ensure adherence to quality processes including:

DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)

PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis)

Control Plans

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.

8+ years of experience in engineering interior restraint systems.

Strong understanding of restraint system requirements and safety standards.

Experience with DV/PV testing and validation processes.

Proficiency in CATIA (including sectioning and data analysis).

Proven ability to resolve engineering issues quickly and effectively.

Strong communication skills with proficiency in English (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier environments.

Familiarity with full vehicle development cycles and launch support.
