Work EnvironmentData engineering teams, IT departments, cloud environmentsBusiness units, analytics teams, management
Industry UsageTech, finance, healthcare, e-commerceMarketing, finance, retail, consulting

While Data Engineer ETL Developers focus on building robust data pipelines and managing data infrastructure, Data Analysts interpret data to support decision-making. Both roles require SQL and data handling skills but serve different purposes within organizations.

What tech jobs pay $400,000 a year?

Data Engineer and ETL Developer roles can reach or exceed $400,000 annually, especially with seniority, specialized skills in big data tools, cloud platforms, and extensive experience. High compensation is often associated with leadership positions, complex project responsibilities, or working in competitive industries like finance or technology. Achieving this level typically requires advanced certifications, a strong technical background, and a track record of delivering large-scale data solutions.

Are ETL developers in demand?

ETL developers, including data engineers specializing in ETL processes, are in high demand due to the increasing need for data integration and management across industries. Skills in SQL, Python, and tools like Apache Spark or Informatica enhance employability, and demand is expected to grow as organizations prioritize data-driven decision-making.

Is an ETL developer a data engineer?

An ETL developer is a type of data engineer who specializes in designing and implementing Extract, Transform, Load processes to move and prepare data for analysis. Data engineers often have skills in SQL, scripting, and data pipeline tools like Apache Spark or Airflow, and may perform broader data architecture tasks beyond ETL development.

Will AI replace ETL?

AI can automate certain aspects of ETL processes, such as data transformation and validation, but it is unlikely to fully replace ETL developers. Human expertise is still needed for designing complex workflows, troubleshooting, and managing data quality. ETL roles will evolve to incorporate AI tools, emphasizing skills in automation and data pipeline management.

Job Description:Seeking an experienced ETL Developer to support enterprise data migration and modernization initiatives involving SAS-to-Snowflake conversion and Talend-based ETL pipelines within a banking environment. The ideal candidate should possess strong expertise in Snowflake, Talend, PySpark, SQL, Unix/Linux, SAS code analysis, cloud platforms, and enterprise ETL/ELT development. This role requires hands-on experience analyzing legacy SAS code, converting business logic into Snowflake SQL and Talend pipelines, developing scalable ETL jobs, implementing CDC logic, optimizing performance, and ensuring data quality, integrity, and SLA adherence across enterprise data platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze complex SAS code, macros, and batch workflows to understand business logic and data transformations
  • Refactor, optimize, and convert legacy SAS processes into Snowflake SQL and Talend ETL pipelines
  • Design and develop Talend ETL/ELT jobs for enterprise data ingestion, transformation, and loading into Snowflake
  • Implement Talend transformations including tMap, tJoin, tAggregateRow, and tFilterRow to support business logic processing
  • Create and maintain source-to-target mapping documents (MapDocs) and transformation logic documentation
  • Develop parameterized Talend jobs using context variables for DEV, QA, and PROD environments
  • Build and manage Snowflake data pipelines using SQL, stored procedures, and automated tasks
  • Implement incremental load processing and Change Data Capture (CDC) logic for large datasets
  • Perform data profiling, validation, reconciliation, and quality checks between source and Snowflake systems
  • Troubleshoot ETL failures, resolve data issues, and optimize performance bottlenecks in Snowflake and Talend pipelines
  • Optimize Snowflake queries and Talend workflows for scalability, performance, and cost efficiency
  • Ensure enterprise data delivery meets SLA/OLA timelines and release requirements
  • Collaborate with QA teams, Data Modelers, business teams, and stakeholders during UAT, deployments, and post-production validation

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support enterprise migration and modernization activities involving Snowflake and Talend ecosystems
  • Maintain transformation logic, technical documentation, and ETL development standards
  • Participate in release management, testing, deployment support, and production readiness activities
  • Support continuous improvement of ETL performance, scalability, and data quality practices
  • Collaborate across technical and business teams to ensure seamless delivery and issue resolution

Required Skills:

  • Strong expertise in Snowflake, Talend, PySpark, SQL, Unix/Linux, and SAS code analysis/conversion
  • Strong experience designing and developing ETL/ELT pipelines and enterprise data workflows
  • Experience converting SAS processes into Snowflake SQL and Talend pipelines
  • Hands-on experience implementing Talend transformations including tMap, tJoin, tAggregateRow, and tFilterRow
  • Experience implementing CDC logic, incremental loads, and large-scale data processing solutions
  • Strong data profiling, validation, reconciliation, and data quality experience
  • Experience optimizing Snowflake queries and Talend jobs for performance and cost efficiency
  • Experience with AWS/Azure cloud platforms and enterprise data ecosystems
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and stakeholder collaboration skills

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 810+ years of strong hands-on ETL/Data Engineering experience required
  • Experience supporting enterprise migration and modernization initiatives required
  • Strong enterprise data integration and release support experience preferred
  • Experience collaborating with QA, business, and Data Modeling teams preferred
