Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Data Collector for the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER). Responsibilities for this position will include scheduling appointments with schools, administering the assessments, reporting the number of completed assessments on a weekly basis to the Project Coordinator(s), returning completed assessments to NIEER and data entry and cleaning.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Completes reliability requirements for the assessments and classroom observations required for the specific project assigned.
  • Communicates with assigned child care programs, preschools, or schools to schedule data collection dates.
  • Maintains active communication with programs as necessary to facilitate data collection.
  • Administers assessments or observations in designated classrooms, as trained.
  • Monitors participation completion of study daily and follow-up surveys.
  • Administers semi-structured interviews to teachers, as needed.
  • Provides daily reports on completed work.
  • Reports the number of completed assessments to the Project Coordinator(s) and return completed assessments to NIEER on a weekly basis.
  • Ensures the accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of data and adherence to study protocols.
  • Enters data as trained by coordinators and assist in data cleaning and/or entering.
  • Participates in the recruitment, screening, and scheduling of participants for study visits.
  • Supports coordinators in project management tasks related to data collection.
  • Handles special projects assigned based on demonstrated knowledge and job skills.
FLSA Nonexempt Salary Details $38/hourly Offer Information

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and have effective client service skills.
  • Ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
  • Working knowledge and the ability to use basic spreadsheet, word-processing, and database and analytical software for data analyses, such as STATA, SAS, R, mplus, and HLM.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus or major in child development, early childhood, psychology or related field.
  • Knowledge about child development and developmentally appropriate early childhood teaching practices.
  • Experience in classroom settings and/or working with children.
  • Ability to write, speak, and read Spanish.
  • Experience working with Hispanic communities.

  • Assessments will be conducted at the child's schools/centers. As such, must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a reliable vehicle or other dependable means of transportation (i.e., public transportation).
