Job description

Freedom Technology Solutions Group is seeking a Data Scientist that combines strong technical expertise with analytical rigor and business acumen to transform data into actionable insights. Proficient in programming languages such as Python and SQL, they are skilled in data wrangling, statistical analysis, and machine learning techniques to build and evaluate predictive models. They possess a deep understanding of probability, experimentation, and model performance, enabling them to select appropriate methods and ensure reliable results. Beyond technical capabilities, they excel at problem framing, critical thinking, and translating complex findings into clear, impactful narratives for stakeholders. With an awareness of data pipelines, cloud environments, and scalable architectures, they operate effectively within modern data ecosystems, ultimately driving informed decision-making and measurable organizational value. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Reports to a manager or head of a unit/department on a weekly basis.
  • Management of data processes and procedures for the team.
  • Providing metrics, reports, and presentations as requested by the government lead and PM
  • Work to improve efficiency with team processes
  • Contribute to team discussions and recommend improvements.
  • Guides and supports junior level personnel
  • Conduct root cause problem analysis and develop technical solutions to problems 

Key Technologies:

  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Knowledge of supervised learning (classification, regression), unsupervised learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction), model evaluation (precision, recall, F1, ROC-AUC), feature engineering, and overfitting vs underfitting.
  • Knowledge of probability & distributions, hypothesis testing (A/B testing), regression (linear, logistic), Bayesian thinking, and experimental design.
  • Data Wrangling and Feature Engineering
  • Data Visualization and storytelling (Tableau, Matplotlib, Power BI
  • Knowledge of ETL processes, data pipelines and APIs/data integration
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Understanding services (e.g., EC2, Lambda, S3, Kubernetes Services)
  • DevSecOps & Automation
  • Understanding of GitLab CI/CD, Databases (joins aggregations, performance tuning), Big data tools (Spark, Hadoop), Data manipulation (Pandas, NumPy), and programming.
  • Agile, DevSecOps, & Development Lifecycle Tools
  • SonarQube, Nexus, etc. for code and dependency scanning 

Required Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI security clearance (eligible for CI Poly).
  • Bachelor's required; Master's degree or PhD (preferred) in Data Science, Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or related quantitative science field.  
  • 3-8 years of experience
  • Ability to develop and use more complex concepts and processes
  • Significant applied knowledge of Data Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle to include independent testing and data verification.
  • Ability to lead/manage any data-related project with no supervision.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to include briefing and creation of presentations.
  • Ability to visualize results and explain problem solving steps to increase understanding to all levels
  • Ability to develop algorithm description documentation for software development.
  • Simulation and modeling experience.
  • Working knowledge and practical application of data wrangling (handling missing data, data cleaning and normalization, transforming raw data into usable features, and working with structured + unstructured data.
  • Self-starter with the ability to learn, research, and solve problems on their own accord.
  • Works mostly independent  

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of secure coding best practices and compliance standards (NIST, FedRAMP, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Cloud Platforms (AWS, Azure).
  • Experience with modern software development practices.
  • Experience with navigating organizational security processes.
  • Experience developing and delivering contract deliverables.
