Job description

VAST Data is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer – Federal (DOE) to join our growing Federal team.

This is a great opportunity to be part of one of the fastest-growing infrastructure companies in history, an organization that is in the center of the hurricane being created by the revolution in artificial intelligence.

"VAST's data management vision is the future of the market."- Forbes

VAST Data is the data platform company for the AI era. We are building the enterprise software infrastructure to capture, catalog, refine, enrich, and protect massive datasets and make them available for real-time data analysis and AI training and inference. Designed from the ground up to make AI simple to deploy and manage, VAST takes the cost and complexity out of deploying enterprise and AI infrastructure across data center, edge, and cloud.

Our success has been built through intense innovation, a customer-first mentality and a team of fearless VASTronauts who leverage their skills & experiences to make real market impact. This is an opportunity to be a key contributor at a pivotal time in our company’s growth and at a pivotal point in computing history.

As a Senior Systems Engineer supporting the Department of Energy (DOE), you will act as a trusted technical advisor to national laboratories, research institutions, and federal integrators—guiding customers through architecture design, evaluation, and deployment of VAST’s data platform for mission-critical workloads.

You will work closely with Federal Account Executives, system integrators, and channel partners to drive adoption across HPC, AI/ML, scientific computing, energy research, and classified/unclassified environments.

The Role

  • Support business development across DOE accounts, including national labs and affiliated research institutions.
  • Work closely with Federal sales teams and channel partners to sell the VAST Data platform.
  • Align technical sales activity with federal procurement and buying cycles.
  • Manage customer relationships from initial engagement through (optional) proof of concept and post-sale expansion.
  • Develop and deliver technical proposals and architectures aligned to DOE mission workloads.
  • Prospect, penetrate, and support large, complex federal accounts.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience supporting the sale of enterprise storage or data platforms in large IT environments.
  • Experience working with Federal customers, preferably DOE or national laboratory environments.
  • Understanding of HPC, AI/ML, and large-scale unstructured data workloads.
  • Experience delivering technical architecture and product presentations.
  • Knowledge of virtualization, high-performance networking, and enterprise security.
  • Ability to perform in an unstructured environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Positive energy, optimism, and vision.
