Job description

Job Title: Data Centre Technician – Level 3 / Lead Technician

Location: Data Center- Altoona, IA, (Multiple Locations)

Employment Type: Contract

Position Summary

The Lead Technician is responsible for deploying backbone network infrastructure by installing network hardware and fiber optic cabling, executing engineering designs, and supporting network provisioning and troubleshooting.

This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can interpret engineering documentation, follow established installation procedures, and collaborate effectively with engineers, technicians, customers, and external partners.

The ideal candidate is organized, safety-focused, comfortable working in physically demanding environments, and able to travel extensively to support project deployments.

We are looking for an experienced Level 3 Data Centre Technician / Lead Technician with 5–7+ years of overall data centre/network infrastructure experience, including 3+ years leading teams of technicians.

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret engineering/design packages and execute network deployment projects.

Review BOMs and ensure all equipment and materials are available before installation.

Lead technician teams during large-scale data centre deployments.

Install and secure network hardware, fibre, and structured cabling.

Route, patch, label, and document fibre-optic and network connections.

Support network engineers with provisioning, testing, and troubleshooting.

Complete project documentation, photographs, and installation deliverables.

Provide daily project updates to team leads and customers.

Ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to required quality standards.

 

Requirements

5–7+ years of relevant data centre/network infrastructure experience.

3+ years of experience leading teams of technicians.

Strong hands-on experience with network hardware and fibre-optic cabling.

Ability to interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.

Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and team leadership skills.
