Job description

Center for Human Development, Inc. is seeking a part-time (20 hours weekly / 10 months a year)Health Assistant at the Union School-Based Health Center. The Health Assistant primarily performs clinic support duties in maintaining patient records and medical and mental health clinic support duties to adolescent health care clinic independently. The health assistant is responsible for all clerical duties of a routine nature such as typing, filing, record keeping, answering of phones, computerized scheduling, greeting the clients, intake paperwork, data entry and other related work as required.


The Requirements:

  • High school graduation or equivalency.
  • One year of experience in a medical clinic setting preferred, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above described duties.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required or willingness to pursue upon employment.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon Driver's license and be insurable for travel between business offices, and to attend required meeting and/or trainings.
  • Must pass all criminal history check requirements as required by ORS 181.536-181.537 and in accordance with OAR 407-007-0200-407-007-0370 and drug screening


Essential Functions:

  • Assist public in answering questions related to clinic programs and in completion of forms and applications. Good telephone etiquette.
  • Sort, processes, verifies, and files materials in accordance with established procedures.
  • Operates computer to access/update various files, schedule appointments, as well as to do projects for clinic.
  • Have the ability to work independently and use sound judgment.
  • Operates office equipment, such as calculators, photocopy machines, fax machines, and computer software program (MS Word and MS Excel, iPad, Electronic Health Record Systems).
  • Types forms and basic correspondence.
  • Gathers information necessary to initiate client records and service, and maintains records according to agency policy, updating them as necessary (i.e. address, insurance information, immunizations, etc.).
  • Maintains a clinic environment that assures client confidentiality
  • Post labs and correspondence in charts after initial review by provider.
  • Orders and maintains office supplies, medical supplies and appropriate forms.
  • Checks clients in on computer verifying insurance.
  • Writes and distributes appointment reminder and appointment slips.
  • Supply data, compile year end reports and participate in implementation of clinic audits.
  • Transfer charts to other clinics and CHD as per protocol.
  • Assist in maintaining administrative polices and procedure manuals.
  • Collect fees, issues receipt and enters information into computer system.
  • Assists the NP and Mental Health Provider as needed.
  • Assists in visibility to students throughout the use of bulletin boards, newsletters and bulletins.
  • Other duties as assigned.
