We’re hiring: Data Center Operations Engineer 2 to join Sabey Data Centers in Ashburn, VA.

In this role, you’ll:
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on critical electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems
• Monitor facility conditions, troubleshoot equipment, and respond to critical alarms
• Support infrastructure upgrades, maintenance activities, and vendor coordination
• Contribute to operational reliability, continuous improvement, and safety across the site
 
This position is based on-site in Ashburn, VA, with a Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. schedule.
$95,335–$143,003 + bonus eligibility

About This Role 

As a Data Center Operations Engineer 2, you will be directly involved in the day-to-day maintenance, repair, monitoring, and operation of Sabey's critical data center infrastructure. Working across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, environmental control, and other facility systems, you will help maintain the high availability and operational standards that Sabey's customers depend on. 

This role is well suited for someone with critical facilities or related technical experience who enjoys solving problems hands-on, responding calmly when conditions change, and continuously building their technical expertise. You will work both independently and alongside operations teammates, vendors, and contractors while contributing to preventive maintenance, incident response, documentation, and continuous improvement. 

Your Contribution Will Likely Include 

  • Helping maintain maximum uptime and availability across data center services by proactively identifying and addressing potential disruptions. 
  • Monitoring and supporting critical facility infrastructure, including power distribution, HVAC, environmental controls, and related systems. 
  • Performing and helping lead scheduled and preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, checks, and cleaning to support reliability and equipment longevity. 
  • Monitoring environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and power consumption and responding promptly to alarms and alerts. 
  • Diagnosing abnormal equipment or facility conditions, implementing solutions, escalating when appropriate, and documenting incidents and resolutions. 
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures for routine operations, emergency response, and disaster recovery. 
  • Maintaining accurate records of data center hardware assets, equipment configurations, physical locations, and cable connections. 
  • Supporting inventory management and coordinating replacement parts or equipment needs. 
  • Working with external vendors and contractors during equipment installations, upgrades, maintenance, and repairs to help ensure work meets Sabey's standards and timelines. 
  • Supporting disaster recovery and business continuity efforts and participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation for critical incidents. 
  • Documenting incidents, contributing to root-cause analysis, and helping implement measures that reduce the risk of recurrence. 
  • Communicating effectively with team members and stakeholders during and following operational incidents. 
  • Identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reliability, and cost effectiveness through new technologies, tools, and processes. 
  • Using emerging technologies, including AI and automation tools, to streamline appropriate routine tasks, documentation, correspondence, meeting notes, and operational tracking. 
  • Promoting a safety-conscious culture and embodying Sabey's core values. 

Experience You Will Bring 

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certifications or coursework related to data center operations are a plus. 
  • Relevant industry experience with mechanical, electrical, controls, or similar systems, with the ability to quickly learn unfamiliar equipment using operations manuals and technical documentation. 
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining critical facilities. 
  • Comfort working in an environment with a strong emphasis on preventive maintenance and emergency response. 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal instruction while collaborating effectively with employees, business partners, vendors, and contractors. 
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities with close attention to detail. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to remain professional under pressure. 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and the ability to become proficient with additional software and digital tools.
