Senior Data Center Infrastructure Engineer – Onsite Site Operations


Job Type: Contract – 1 Year

About the Role

We are seeking Senior Data Center Infrastructure Engineers to provide hands-on onsite support across enterprise Small & Edge Data Centers and third-party Colocation facilities.

This is a highly hands-on Data Center Infrastructure / Site Operations position focused on the installation, deployment, troubleshooting, maintenance, relocation, and decommissioning of physical technology infrastructure.

The successful candidates will serve as the onsite engineering presence, working closely with Network, Compute, Storage, Security, Facilities, and third-party vendors to ensure data center infrastructure is installed, maintained, documented, and operated safely and efficiently.

This is an onsite role and is not a remote infrastructure management position.

Key Responsibilities

Data Center & Colocation Operations

  • Perform hands-on installation, relocation, modification, and decommissioning of servers, storage, network, and telecommunications equipment.
  • Execute rack-and-stack activities and equipment deployments.
  • Install, troubleshoot, and manage structured cabling, including fiber optic and copper cabling, patch panels, labeling, and cable remediation.
  • Perform physical troubleshooting of infrastructure equipment and connectivity issues.
  • Support hardware break/fix activities and coordinate replacement of failed components.
  • Conduct physical inventory audits, asset verification, and equipment tracking.
  • Support hardware disposal, decommissioning, and reverse logistics activities.

Site Engineering & Infrastructure Support

  • Provide onsite engineering support for Small & Edge Data Centers and third-party colocation facilities.
  • Provide physical oversight during maintenance windows, outages, upgrades, and infrastructure changes.
  • Support data center construction, expansion, consolidation, migration, and decommissioning projects.
  • Review and interpret rack elevations, floor plans, network diagrams, equipment layouts, and power utilization.
  • Validate site and infrastructure readiness before implementation.
  • Support site acceptance testing, implementation, and operational turnover activities.

Change & Incident Management

  • Execute approved infrastructure changes during scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Participate in incident response, troubleshooting, and infrastructure restoration activities.
  • Support root-cause investigations through onsite troubleshooting and technical data collection.
  • Validate successful implementation, restoration, and operational readiness following changes.
  • Provide real-time updates during critical incidents and maintenance activities.

Critical Infrastructure Support

  • Support technology infrastructure activities involving UPS systems, PDUs, cooling systems, environmental monitoring systems, generators, and related facility infrastructure.
  • Serve as the technology infrastructure representative during facility maintenance and power-related events.
  • Verify compliance with data center infrastructure, safety, security, and operational standards.
  • Assist with environmental and operational assessments of technology facilities.

Documentation, Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain accurate rack elevation diagrams, cable documentation, asset records, and site documentation.
  • Conduct site inspections and operational readiness reviews.
  • Support physical access management and site security processes.
  • Assist with audit readiness and compliance activities.
  • Ensure all work follows established technology, safety, security, and operational standards.

Vendor Management

  • Coordinate and oversee third-party vendors performing work within data center and technology facilities.
  • Escort vendors requiring onsite access when necessary.
  • Monitor vendor activities and verify work completion.
  • Ensure vendor work complies with established client standards and requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, data center operations, or a closely related field.
  • Strong experience supporting enterprise data centers and/or colocation facilities.
  • Hands-on experience with physical server, storage, networking, and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Proven experience with rack installation, rack-and-stack, equipment deployment, and structured cabling.
  • Experience with fiber optic and copper cabling, patching, labeling, and cable remediation.
  • Experience supporting high-availability and mission-critical environments.
  • Strong understanding of data center operational processes, including change management, incident management, and maintenance windows.
  • Ability to read and interpret rack elevations, floor plans, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience working with ticketing/workflow systems.
  • Strong communication, troubleshooting, organizational, and vendor-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • CDCP, CDCE, or equivalent data center certification.
  • Experience supporting financial services, enterprise technology, or other mission-critical environments.
  • Working knowledge of UPS, PDU, HVAC/cooling, generators, and environmental monitoring systems.
  • Experience with data center migrations, site exits, consolidations, build-outs, and infrastructure deployments.
  • Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365, or similar workflow and documentation platforms.
  • Previous experience working directly within third-party colocation facilities.
  • Experience coordinating and managing onsite vendors.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • This position requires routine and regular onsite presence within data centers, technology rooms, and colocation facilities.
  • Ability to safely lift, move, and install equipment consistent with data center operations.
  • Ability to work in raised-floor, server-room, network-room, and colocation environments.
  • Ability to travel between regional sites when required.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weeknights, weekends, and scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Participation in incident response, infrastructure outages, and recovery activities may be required.

  • Richardson, TX 75081 – 3 openings
  • Franklin Park, IL 60131 – 3 openings

Candidates must be located within a reasonable commuting distance of the selected work location and be able to work 100% onsite.
