Overview

Henkels & McCoy, Inc. (H&M’s) Chantilly office specializes in low voltage cabling to support enterprise, data centers, government, and medical facilities. We design and install multiple technologies and work throughout the DC Metro area. H&M is seeking an energetic, career-minded Construction Manager, working with our team out of our Chantilly, VA Office.   The position will be supporting a Data Center customer with locations in the Northern Virginia Area.

The Construction Manager plays a tactical role within H&M’s Project Management group.  The Construction Manager is the on-site point of contact representing H&M reporting to the Project Manager.  This position is responsible for the management of cabling infrastructure activities according to contract, scope, and schedule, supporting the Project Manager in obtaining the best possible financial result of the project.  This position is responsible for ensuring that specific goals and plans are prioritized, organized, and accomplished by field crews.

The Construction Manager role will include understanding how to develop relationships, form alliances, manage conflicts with positive results, and accomplish the work on time and on budget. The Construction Manager will build safety into every activity safeguarding the public, our customers, our employees and the environment from harm due to our operations, as well as adhere to all occupational safety and health-related laws and government regulations applicable to these operations.


Responsibilities
  • Operate as a subject matter expert on structured cabling projects.
  • Conduct site surveys to provide input into estimates for proposals, and review and summarize bid documents.
  • Define work for field crews daily and ensure all activities are performed in adherence with the Project Plan.
  • Ensure all subcontractor activities are performed according to Purchase Order and Contract.
  • Provide technical information to the field crews by translating structured cabling drawings/prints into tracking spreadsheets and create cut-sheets.
  • Attend on-site meetings with GCs and customers as necessary.
  • Coordinate material inventory and deliveries.
  • Identify all issues requiring PM attention along with their urgency and overall impact to the project.
  • Notify the PM in a timely manner of any pending or actual changes to the work performed that may impact costs, schedule, contract, or customer relationship.
  • Track all details related to changes to the work to ensure all accurate and timely Change Order Requests can be submitted.
  • Identify and coordinate with PM on manpower and other resources required for the construction.
  • Responsible for all site safety, health and security.
  • Organize and file all site documents, including daily work reports and project close-out deliverables.
  • Perform field Quality Control functions.
  • Responsible for Contract and subcontractor quality site documentation.
  • Assemble and manage punch list in cooperation with the customer and ensure timely completion of outstanding items.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years construction experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years low voltage, structured cabling installation and design experience.
  • Data Center experience a plus.
  • Experience directly managing craft labor.
  • Thorough understanding of construction industry practices, processes, and standards.
  • Thorough understanding of EIA/TIA Standards required.
  • Competent computer skills and a working knowledge of Outlook and Excel.
  • A Degree in Construction Management and/or Project Management coursework a plus.
  • BICSI and/or RCDD certification is a plus.
  • Industry Certifications (CommScope, Hilti, Tyco, Panduit) preferred.
  • Understanding of Microsoft Project Scheduling tool a plus.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position (climbing, standing, crouching, kneeling, bending, lifting)
  • Ability to travel to multiple job sites within the Northern Virginia/DC Metropolitan area.
