Job Summary/Basic Function
The Graduate Assistant (GA) in the Academic Support Center supports the coordination and delivery of academic support services, including but not limited to tutoring, placement testing, and make-up exams. This role strengthens day-to-day operations, supports student employees, and contributes to innovative practices that promote student achievement and academic persistence. The assistantship provides hands-on experience for a graduate student interested in academic support, teaching and learning, or higher education administration.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support daily operations of the Academic Support Center, including tutoring services, placement exams, and make-up testing.
  • Assist with the recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing support of student staff.
  • Serve as a front-line resource for student employees by providing guidance and referral support.
  • Manage scheduling systems, attendance records, and service utilization data.
  • Assist with assessment efforts, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with student support leadership on innovative approaches to academic support delivery.
  • Support outreach and communication efforts to promote Academic Support Center services, including class presentations.
  • Maintain testing procedures and exam integrity in accordance with institutional policies.
  • Perform additional administrative duties and special projects assigned to support the Director and Senior Administrative Assistant.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Enrollment (at least 6 credits each semester) in a graduate degree program in higher education, student affairs, education, counseling, psychology, or related field. If a student drops below this credit amount, they may be terminated from the position.
  • At least a 3.0 GPA to be in good academic standing with the graduate program.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Interest in academic support, learning assistance, or student achievement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism with students' academic and personal information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in tutoring, academic support services, or peer education.
  • Experience supporting or supervising student staff.
  • Familiarity with assessment, data tracking, or scheduling systems.
  • Interest in innovation, program improvement, or educational technology.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends.
