Data Annotation information

What is a data annotation?

A Data Annotation job involves labeling and categorizing data, such as text, images, audio, or video, to help train machine learning models. Annotators apply tags, bounding boxes, or classifications to data based on specific guidelines. This process improves the accuracy of AI systems in recognizing patterns and making predictions. Many data annotation jobs require attention to detail and familiarity with specific domains. It is commonly used in applications like autonomous driving, natural language processing, and computer vision.

What does a data annotation do?

A typical workday as a Data Annotator involves reviewing datasets—such as images, audio, text, or video—and accurately labeling or categorizing information according to specific project guidelines. Most Data Annotators work independently, but they often collaborate with project managers or data scientists to clarify requirements and resolve ambiguities. Tasks may be repetitive, but adhering to precise standards is vital for maintaining data quality. Work environments can range from technology companies to remote or freelance settings, and advancement opportunities exist as team leads or quality assurance specialists for those who excel in consistency and reliability.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in data annotation?

To thrive in Data Annotation, you need strong attention to detail, accuracy, and basic data handling skills, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with annotation platforms, data labeling software, or content management systems is frequently required, though specific certifications are rare. Excellent communication, time management, and the ability to focus on repetitive tasks distinguish top performers in this role. These skills are crucial because accurate and consistent data annotation directly impacts the quality of machine learning models and AI applications.

How much money can I make doing data annotation?

Data annotation jobs typically pay between $10 and $20 per hour, depending on the complexity of the task and the employer. Experienced annotators or those working on specialized projects may earn higher rates, especially if they have skills in specific tools or domains. Earnings can vary based on whether the work is freelance, part-time, or full-time, and some platforms offer bonuses for accuracy or speed.

Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Architectural Revit Technician provides dedicated technical production support for UHT's in-house design and construction program. This role is the primary owner of Revit modeling, construction documentation, and Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) data across UHT's 1.5 million square foot healthcare portfolio. The Revit Technician works directly alongside the Architectural Project Manager, reports to the Director of Architecture, and allows UHT's architects to remain focused on design leadership, engineering coordination, and construction oversight.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Revit Production & Construction Documentation

  • Develop and maintain complete Revit construction document sets for interior renovation and capital improvement projects across UHT facilities
  • Produce drawings from design intent, redlines, and field-verified conditions under the direction of the Director of Architecture or Senior Architectural Associate
  • Set up and manage sheet packages, worksets, view templates, and file organization within the department's Revit environment
  • Coordinate drawing sets across architectural, MEP, and structural disciplines to maintain design integrity throughout the document set
  • Maintain drawing standards, annotation consistency, revision control, and BIM standards compliance across all active projects
  • Develop 3D renderings and design visualizations that support design intent communication and leadership decision-making

CAFM Management & Lease Square Footage Calculations

  • Serve as primary owner and day-to-day manager of UHT's Computer-Aided Facility Management (CAFM) system
  • Measure and maintain precise square footage calculations for all leased spaces in UHT's portfolio — including individual rooms, corridors, and circulation paths — in compliance with BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) standards
  • Ensure CAFM data accurately reflects the current state of each facility to support rent calculations, fee structures, and space management reporting
  • Coordinate with Finance, DataOps and Facilities Management teams to ensure square footage records align with lease and billing requirements

As-Built Maintenance & FM Coordination

  • Maintain current and accurate as-built floor plans across all UHT facilities, updating models at project close-out to reflect completed construction
  • Systematically correct legacy floor plan data originating from older CAD file conversions, establishing accurate baseline models for all buildings
  • Own and maintain all life safety drawings, ensuring egress paths, fire-rated assemblies, and related elements are updated as the physical environment changes
  • Expand Revit model content over time to include reflected ceiling plans (RCPs), lighting layouts, and flooring — supporting FM team access to comprehensive facility data
  • Coordinate with the Facilities Management team to ensure floor plans remain accessible and useful for work orders, repairs, and compliance reviews

Documentation Quality & Standards

  • Enforce consistent sheet formatting, annotation standards, and model organization across all project files
  • Manage systematic file organization, folder structures, and version control within the department's shared Revit environment
  • Support drawing standards development and BIM protocol maintenance as the department's primary technical production resource
  • Perform Revit troubleshooting and provide technical support to the architectural team as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Architectural Technology, Architectural Drafting, Design Technology, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited program
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional Revit experience in an architectural firm, engineering firm, or construction environment — not exclusively owner's rep or corporate in-house settings
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Revit, including production of complete construction document sets, workset management, and sheet setup
  • Working knowledge of architectural drawing standards, construction documentation, and BIM workflows
  • Understanding of building codes, ADA accessibility requirements, and life safety documentation standards
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple active projects simultaneously

Preferred

  • Two to four years of firm experience with demonstrated progression in modeling and documentation responsibility
  • Experience with CAFM platforms or facilities data management systems
  • Autodesk Certified Professional (ACP) certification in Revit for Architectural Design
  • Familiarity with BOMA measurement standards and leased-space square footage calculation methodologies
  • Exposure to healthcare, higher education, or commercial construction environments
  • Experience with 3D rendering tools or visualization workflows (e.g., Enscape, Lumion, or Revit native rendering)
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission Environment of Care standards or life safety drawing requirements
