What is a data annotation project manager?

A Data Annotation Project Manager is responsible for overseeing projects that involve labeling and categorizing data, such as images, text, or audio, to train machine learning models. They coordinate teams of annotators, manage project timelines, and ensure the quality and accuracy of the annotated data. This role often acts as a bridge between data scientists, clients, and annotation teams, ensuring project requirements are met efficiently and effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a data annotation project manager?

To thrive as a Data Annotation Project Manager, you need strong project management skills, a solid understanding of data annotation processes, and experience with quality assurance, often supported by a degree in a relevant field. Familiarity with annotation tools (like Labelbox or Supervisely), workflow management platforms, and sometimes agile or PMP certification is highly beneficial. Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and leadership abilities help you effectively coordinate teams and ensure project deliverables meet quality standards. These skills are essential for managing complex annotation projects efficiently, maintaining data integrity, and supporting successful machine learning outcomes.

Successful managers often implement robust feedback loops, leverage annotation tools with built-in quality control features, and foster an open environment for continuous improvement.

Job description

Overview
Susquehanna is a global proprietary trading firm founded with a growth mindset and a rigorous analytical approach to decision making. We bring together the brightest minds, the best technology, and an expansive library of data to design and implement proprietary trading strategies that make us leaders in the financial markets. Our ability to think together (but not always alike) propels our success.
Critically important to our business, market data is utilized by every trading system in the firm and is required for our participation in the markets. By joining our team, you'll ensure that data flows into and throughout the firm reliably and seamlessly.
For many of our roles, we don't expect you to have prior industry experience in proprietary trading or financial services to succeed at Susquehanna International Group. We're looking for people who are naturally curious, relentless problem solvers, and have the desire to continuously innovate, learn, and grow.
In this role, you will:
  • Support projects that facilitate high speed processing of large volumes of data using varied technologies crossing .NET, Python, C++ and the infrastructure that employ them
  • Interface with our trading, business, and engineering teams, along with the exchanges themselves, as you analyze market and reference data for any changes made to their infrastructure that could impact our business
  • Approach initiatives that span new software delivery and/or enhancements to our existing systems utilizing the agile methodologies that best suit the project you're working on
  • Manage exchange driven changes to ensure that necessary enhancements to our systems are made, within required timeframes
  • Maintain project tracking and documentation using Jira and Confluence
  • Partner with stakeholders and project teams to translate business requirements into practical solutions.
  • Write and maintain tools and scripts that are used by the project management team to streamline our processes

What we're looking for
  • Bachelor's degree required; a degree in a MIS, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM discipline is preferred
  • 1-5 years of experience providing application and/or systems implementation and technical business analysis / project management services required
  • Ability to understand system architecture, trace data flows, and assess impacts across systems
  • Eagerness to learn and a strong ability to work autonomously
  • Must demonstrate a solid understanding of technical workflows

Preferred:
  • Experience working with JIRA (JQL) and Confluence preferred
  • Knowledge of SDLC required; experience with Kanban or Scrum preferred
  • Knowledge of scripting (SQL, Python, Shell)

Visa sponsorship for work authorization is not available for this position now or in the future.
