The Position

We are a growing company seeking motivated team members who are passionate about delivering exceptional solutions to our clients. As a CAD Drafter, you will play a key role in bringing projects to life by preparing and modifying detailed drawings that meet project specifications and customer requirements using computer-aided design (CAD) software.

Working closely with our construction and commissioning teams, you will help ensure projects are delivered accurately, efficiently, and on schedule. Your attention to detail, technical expertise, and collaborative approach will directly contribute to the success of every project.

This is a full-time, permanent position and could alternate between our HQ office located in Durham, NC, and client locations.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare clear, complete, and accurate drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, specification sheets and other data, using computer-aided design (CAD), according to client specifications
  • Meet with design engineers, project managers, and draftsmen to review project drafting requirements and timely delivery of drawings. Provide regular updates with progress prints for review by the design team.
  • Check and verify design drawings conform to specifications and design data
  • Prepare 2-D and 3-D detailed electronic maps, drawings, exhibits, descriptions and records using computer-assisted drafting software (CAD) including AutoCAD
  • Support design development, including preparation of drawings, calculations, and technical documentation
  • Build final drawing packages based on job specifications, ensuring consistency in design standards, dimensions, scaling, and CAD operations
  • Maintain job logs and historical references to support project tracking and documentation
  • Update/maintain digital database, i.e. Autodesk vault, cloud server, hard-copies and engineering documents
  • Perform quality drawing reviews with conversion from redlines to blacklines to be resubmitted to clients
  • Perform design checks and contribute to review/assurance activities
  • Support project delivery to meet scope, schedule, and quality expectations
  • Majority of drawings expected to be MEP with some architectural drawings needed. Civil drawings are not anticipated.


Required Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field; or a minimum of 5 years of proven experience in lieu of a degree
  • 4+ years of experience working in a CAD department is strongly preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of AutoCAD includes but is not limited to Annotation Styles, Multileaders, MTEXT, Dimensions, Sheet Sets, Paper Space / Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes
  • Ability to perform basic math skills including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry
  • Ability to review and understand contract drawings and specifications
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from engineers, CAD managers, or others on the project team
  • Knowledge of Revit
  • Knowledge of 3D environment
  • Knowledge of manually drafting drawings when necessary
  • Must be detail orientated and able to handle several projects at once with minimum help or guidelines from department from start to finish
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office

Desired Qualifications

  • Successful Autodesk AutoCAD Certified Professional examination within the last 3 years


Physical & Other Requirements

  • Activities include extended periods of sitting, movement, and extensive work at a computer and phone
  • May be exposed to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures while visiting construction jobsites
  • Must be able to traverse and inspect areas of job sites in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, or bending
