Hiring two seasonal positions:

  • Newport: August 17, 2026 to December 11, 2026 (1 position)

  • Springfield: August 17, 2026 to December 11, 2026 (1 position)

Duties as a Survey Crew Member - Coastal Chinook Research and Monitoring Program (Biological Science Assistant) in Newport, and Springfield, Oregon are:

  • Fish collection and processing at a hatchery

  • Spawning ground surveys for carcass recovery

  • Creel (recreational fishery) surveys

  • Mark-recapture surveys

  • Request permission from private landowners to conduct surveys on their property

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Minimum qualifications are not established for this position; however, we are seeking applicants with the following experience or skills. Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with these skills and background:

  • Experience working with Chinook salmon (identify, assess condition and activity)

  • Experience wading in streams and with non-motorized paddle craft (pontoons, rafts)

  • Experience collecting biological samples

  • Experience handling live fish and fish carcasses

  • Experience collecting and recording data

  • Anyone who has or is in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences
