Title: Analytical Technician

Location: Freeport, TX

Job Description

The Analytical Technician provides analytical, material characterization, and laboratory testing support for polyurethane (PU) research, product development, troubleshooting, and commercialization activities. This role works closely with research scientists, TS&D specialists, and engineers to generate reliable data and support technical recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform analytical, physical, and mechanical testing of polyurethane materials, including foams, elastomers, adhesives, coatings, and related products.
  • Operate, maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.
  • Prepare samples, execute test methods, analyze data, and generate accurate test reports and documentation.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, and TS&D teams to investigate customer issues, evaluate products, and support research and development projects.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test results, observations, and data in accordance with established procedures and data management systems.
  • Communicate equipment, testing, and project-related issues promptly to laboratory leaders and project teams.
  • Follow laboratory safety, quality, housekeeping, and waste-handling requirements and participate in Management of Change activities.
  • Participate in safety meetings, continuous improvement initiatives, problem-solving activities, and operational excellence programs.

Preferred Technical Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Polyurethane, polymer, materials science, chemistry, or related laboratory environments.
  • Mechanical and physical property testing, including tensile, compression, tear, hardness, resiliency, and density.
  • Thermal and rheological characterization, including GPC, DSC, DMA, TGA, FTIR, and rheometry.
  • Chemical analysis and quality testing, including titration, viscosity, moisture, and pH.
  • Operation and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment, analytical instruments, and data acquisition systems.
  • ASTM, ISO, or other standardized test methods.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Experience operating analytical and physical testing equipment in an industrial, research, or quality laboratory environment preferred.
  • Strong commitment to laboratory safety and safe work practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and mechanical aptitude.
  • Excellent attention to detail, data integrity, and laboratory organization.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn new testing methods and instrumentation quickly.
  • Ability to work independently after training while collaborating effectively within a team.
