Location: Remote (Preference for candidates located in or willing to work from Waukesha, WI)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced HL7 FHIR Integration Engineer to join our healthcare technology team. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in healthcare interoperability, HL7 messaging, FHIR standards, healthcare integration engines, and healthcare system integrations. This role will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting interfaces between clinical and business applications, ensuring seamless exchange of healthcare data across systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and maintain healthcare integrations using HL7 v2.x, FHIR, APIs, and related interoperability standards.
  • Analyze interface requirements and implement solutions supporting data exchange between EHRs, clinical applications, and third-party systems.
  • Develop and support integrations using healthcare interface engines such as Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, or Corepoint.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and development teams to deliver scalable integration solutions.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve interface issues, message processing failures, data mapping challenges, and production support incidents.
  • Develop and maintain API-based integrations leveraging FHIR resources, REST/SOAP services, and healthcare interoperability frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare data standards, privacy regulations, and security best practices.
Required Skills
  • Strong experience in Healthcare Interoperability and healthcare data integration.
  • Expertise in HL7 v2.x messaging standards, including:
    • ADT
    • ORM
    • ORU
    • SIU
    • DFT
    • MDM
  • Hands-on experience with FHIR resources, implementation guides, and healthcare interoperability standards.
  • Experience with healthcare integration engines such as Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, or Corepoint.
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare systems and workflows including:
    • EMR/EHR
    • PACS
    • RIS
    • LIS
    • Billing Systems
  • Experience in message mapping, transformation, validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare data exchange formats including XML, JSON, and X12.

  • Experience with REST APIs, SOAP web services, and API-driven integrations.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and database concepts.
