Position Summary
The Data Analytics Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-impact data visualizations, dashboards, and analytical products that enable informed decision-making across Palmer Holland. Positioned within the Information Technology Department, this role works horizontally across Business Analysis, FP&A, Commercial, and Executive teams to create a cohesive and trusted analytics experience.
This role combines strong business acumen, foundational data modeling knowledge, and exceptional visualization craft to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights. The Engineer plays a key role in unifying Palmer Holland's analytics standards while supporting the organization's evolving data, AI, and automation strategy.
The Data Analytics Engineer partners closely with the Data Solutions Administrator, IT Application & Development team, vertical Business Analysts, and strategic external partners as Palmer Holland builds its next-generation data lakehouse and prepares for advanced analytics, generative AI, and agentic AI use cases.
This is a hybrid role, based in Westlake, OH.
Essential tasks of the position
• Lead the design and development of dashboards, visual analytics, and data products that enable fast, accurate decision-making across all business units.
• Translate ambiguous business questions into clear analytical requirements and high-value visual solutions.
• Create executive-caliber dashboards that are both aesthetically refined and highly functional, including content used for principal-facing applications and the Principal Portal.
• Iterate with Business Analysts, Commercial leaders, and the Executive team to ensure analytics products are intuitive, actionable, and aligned to business needs.
• Build semantic layers, data views, and analytical models in partnership with the Data Solutions Administrator and IT development teams.
• Write and maintain SQL queries, data extraction logic, and lightweight transformations needed to support visualizations.
• Ensure data definitions, filters, hierarchies, and calculations are consistent across dashboards.
• Establish and maintain visualization standards, UX patterns, naming conventions, and data storytelling best practices to ensure consistency and clarity.
• Act as a center-of-excellence partner who coaches Business Analysts in design quality, user experience, and dashboard performance.
• Support rationalization of dashboard/report sprawl and improve overall analytics adoption across the organization.
• Contribute to the design of analytics structures that support future GenAI use cases, including semantic models, governed datasets, and narrative insights.
Qualifications:
Required
• Advanced Knowledge of IT security best practices.
• Comfortable public speaking and effective communication skills.
• Ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner, avoiding unnecessary jargon and technical terms.
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing advanced dashboards and data visualizations in Tableau, Power BI, or similar BI platforms.
• Exceptional design, UX, and data storytelling skills with a portfolio of executive-quality dashboards.
• Strong SQL skills for data extraction and semantic modeling.
• Experience working with data from complex enterprise systems.
• Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence without authority.
• Ability to simplify complex analytical concepts into intuitive, consumable visual outputs.
• Comfort working in hybrid environments with SQL databases, cloud data platforms, and modern analytics tools.
Preferred
  • Experience with Snowflake, Databricks, or other data lakehouse technologies.
  • Understanding of LLMs, narrative insights, or AI-assisted analytics (working knowledge is a plus but not required).
  • Experience in B2B distribution, chemicals, ingredients, or manufacturing.
  • Familiarity with dashboard migration and modernization projects.

Education:
Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Technology, or related field preferred.
