The BlackRock Investment Stewardship team (BIS) operates across three regions - the Americas (New York and San Francisco); Europe, Middle East and Africa (London); and Asia-Pacific (Tokyo, Hong Kong, Singapore and Sydney) - and undertakes engagement with and proxy voting at portfolio companies on behalf of index clients globally.

TheBISteam's activities are guided by BIS' role as a fiduciary on behalf of our clients.In this role, the Director will lead theData & Analyticsteamwithin BISsupportingthe delivery ofprocesses and tools on behalfof the globalBISteam.The roleis based in New York, andreports to the Head of Platform, BIS.

The Director willleadtheBISData & Analyticsteam,managingthreeengineersbased in New York.The successful candidatewillbe responsible fordeliveringglobal, data-centricstewardshipcapabilities including research and reporting, which willcomplement the qualitative company-specific research conducted by BISengagement andvoting analysts. In this role, the Directorhas responsibility, in close partnership with BIS' engagement and voting analysts, to drive the buildout and maintenance ofvarious tools and processes in support of BIS'engagement,voting and client reporting operations.

Thesuccessful candidateshouldpossessa passion for creative and critical thinking about the stewardship ecosystem, investment research,financial and corporate governancedata analysis, as wellas workingclosely withthe broadertechnologybusiness at BlackRock.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enable the stewardship platform, spanning research,votingand client reporting

  • Leverageexpertisein automation to improve analyst efficiencyand controls

  • Support voting and engagement client reporting by designing andmaintaininga code stackutilizingBlackRock'sapplications and tools, includingmanaging anyinterface with Aladdin and other external applications and vendors

  • Partner with other analyticaland technologyfunctions across BlackRock,including the Aladdin Product Group, and Risk and Quantitative Analysis to build,maintainand improve technological solutions

  • Ensure integrity of theBISdata environment and oversee the quality control ofBISproprietary datasets. Golden source of truth for data-rich publications

  • Directteam ofdata analysts inappropriate designand use of data tools and reports

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 8-12years of experience in data engineering

  • Recent experience in evaluating and deploying modern AI techniques

  • Undergraduate degree isrequired, and an advanced degree (Masters) is a plus within a technical field (Computer Science, Statistics)

  • Demonstrated experience with building research and analytics platforms

  • Expert-levelproficiencyrequired. The successful candidates should be a master of relational modeling and complex query optimization

  • ExperiencedinAIincluding orchestration and building workflows,UI/UX,and building RAG-based systems

  • Design robust schemas and ETL/ELT pipelines to ingest corporate filings, global news, and financial data, maximizing our ability to deliver rapid insights

  • Ability to integratecutting-edgeAI intoBISworkflow.Should be comfortable with RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) search, Agentic Workflows, and AI embeddings to help query massive datasets intuitively

  • Demonstrated experience using Python or C# to automate workflows and solve engineering hurdles

  • Significant experiencewith Snowflake (specifically Lake House implementations)

  • Effective communication skills. The successful candidate must have the confidence and ability to interact at the most senior levels and collaborate with both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Collaborativeworking style,withstrong interpersonal skills

  • Experienceof engagingand working effectivelywithpartner technology teamsin a multi-nationalorganization

For New York, NY Only the salary range for this position is USD$200,000.00 - USD$250,000.00 . Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including healthcare, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
