About the Opportunity

THE POSITION
The Community Aide provides routine to difficult support tasks and services within the Probation Department and operations under supervision. Duties within this classification may have a clerical emphasis, community partner emphasis, IT (Information Technology) emphasis, data analyst emphasis, social media emphasis, or a combination. For positions with a clerical emphasis, primary job duties are clerical support. For positions with a community partner emphasis, the primary job duty is working with the community, either in an office, clinic or conducting outreach. This will include meeting with the public in private, group settings or during outreach events, understanding and making referrals to community resources, and fostering communication between the public and the department or County. For positions with an IT emphasis, primary job duties are to provide technical support. For positions with a data analyst emphasis, primary job duties are to provide data research support. For positions with a social media emphasis, primary job duties are content creation and community engagement. This is an excellent starting position designed to learn general clerical and county procedures. As experience is gained, there is greater independence of action within established guidelines.

Community Partner Emphasis - Typical Tasks
  • Meet regularly with designated population;

  • Coordinate and provide technical support to Probation staff;
  • Provide first-level support to users, resolving issues, or referring them to a higher-level staff member when necessary;
  • Creating user IDs, modifying user profiles, and resetting passwords; and
  • Participate in application installation, configuration, upgrades, and maintenance.

Data Analyst Emphasis - Typical Tasks
  • Enroll individuals in department programs;
  • Enter attendance of individuals enrolled in programs;
  • Send class rosters to program instructors; and
  • Track stats related to programs, attendance, and outcomes.

Social Media Emphasis - Typical Tasks
  • Create engaging and relevant content for social media platforms while demonstrating creativity and originality;
  • Familiar with social media platforms;
  • Knowledge of iPhone usage for photos and videos;
  • Research trends for department social media platforms;
  • Respond to comments, messages, and inquiries from followers on social media platforms;
  • Monitor social media post-performance and engagement through an analytics spreadsheet; and

EXAMINATION PROCESS
Most County recruitments consist of the steps detailed below and are governed by Merit Principles. The examination process ensures that all applicants are given the same opportunity to gain employment within Stanislaus County.

  • Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
  • Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months, but may be extended up to eighteen months.

Note: The eligible list generated from this recruitment may be used to fill future extra-help, part-time and full-time vacancies throughout Stanislaus County.
Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).
Part-time extra-help is a provisional classification where permanent status may not be obtained. This position is subject to overtime, standby, shift, and callback assignments and will perform related duties as assigned. This position is non-benefited except for participation in a 401a program with Nationwide.
