Description

Central Garden & Pet is seeking a detail-oriented Master Data Analyst to join its centralized Enterprise Master Data team. This role executes accurate and timely creation, maintenance, and governance of customer, vendor, and related enterprise master data supporting the Garden and Pet businesses.

The analyst partners with business data owners and cross-functional teams to manage workflow, enforce data standards, resolve data-quality issues, and improve the controls and processes that keep enterprise data trusted, consistent, and fit for use.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Create, update, extend, block, and maintain master data records in SAP and connected systems in accordance with approved requests, service levels, governance policies, and internal controls.
  • Manage requests through the designated workflow platform; validate required fields, approvals, supporting documentation, and routing before processing.
  • Apply data standards, naming conventions, hierarchies, reference mappings, and business rules consistently across the Garden and Pet divisions.
  • Perform recurring data-quality reviews and self-audits for completeness, validity, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and duplicate prevention; document results and corrective actions.
  • Investigate data issues, identify root causes, coordinate remediation, and escalate policy, control, or ownership concerns to data owners and Master Data leadership.
  • Partner with business data owners, Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, Procurement, Customer Service, and IT to clarify requirements and resolve master data requests.
  • Support data migrations, system implementations, integrations, mass updates, testing, and post-deployment validation as assigned.
  • Prepare operational metrics, exception reports, and trend analyses that highlight backlog, cycle time, data quality, and compliance performance.
  • Maintain procedures, data definitions, job aids, and audit evidence; recommend practical improvements to workflows, controls, and user experience.
  • Handle sensitive business information responsibly and follow applicable security, privacy, retention, and records-management requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP or equivalent lookup functions, data validation, filtering, and analysis of large datasets.
  • Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines in a controlled environment.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data requirements and resolve issues across technical and business teams.
  • Working knowledge of standard Microsoft 365 applications and virtual collaboration tools.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP customer and/or vendor master data; experience with SAP S/4HANA or SAP Master Data Governance is a plus.
  • Experience executing governed mass-maintenance scripts using Precisely Automate Studio (formerly Winshuttle) or a comparable automation tool.
  • Familiarity with data governance, data-quality controls, workflow management, role-based approvals, and audit-ready documentation.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects, or another business-intelligence and reporting platform.
  • Exposure to SQL, data reconciliation, process mapping, or continuous-improvement methods.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION  
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, data analytics, computer science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
  • Two to four years of experience in master data, data operations, data quality, ERP administration, business operations, or a related discipline.
WORKING CONDITIONS  

This role primarily works in an office or professional hybrid environment and regularly uses a computer, standard office applications, and video-conferencing tools. The position requires participation in remote and in-person meetings based on business and project needs.
