Title: Environmental Professional, Planning & Reclamation/Remediation

Location: Calgary/Medicine Hat
 

H3M Environmental Ltd. provides environmental, archaeology, and regulatory expertise across Western Canada, supporting clients in upstream and midstream oil and gas, municipal infrastructure, Indigenous communities, utilities, forestry, and commercial/industrial sector projects. As a full-scale service provider, H3M knows how to deliver pre-construction assessment, planning and permitting, construction, post-construction restoration, reclamation, and remediation services across multiple sectors.

Position Overview:

H3M Environmental Ltd. is seeking motivated environmental professionals at all levels to join our growing team in Calgary/Medicine Hat area. This role may be ideal for individuals seeking hands-on experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on field-based and office work. The successful candidate will assist in various environmental site assessments, reclamation, and remediation projects while learning the practical application of environmental regulations and guidelines under the mentorship of senior professionals.

Role and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:


Field Work 

  • Assist in conducting environmental site assessments, remediation & reclamation.
  • Perform environmental monitoring and inspection.
  • Prepare for Acknowledgement of Reclamation (AOR) for submission


 Project Support

  • Assist senior team members in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Help prepare field reports and scientific documentation.
  • Support the preparation and filing of environmental permit applications.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders as directed by senior staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of field activities and observations.


Regulatory and Technical Support

  • Maintain an understanding of Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan’s environmental regulations. 
  • Understanding of the oil and gas market, as well as a working knowledge of the regulatory framework.
  • Support the development of technical reports, including data interpretation and site assessments.
  • Work under the guidance of senior professionals to ensure compliance with environmental, health, and safety standards.


Qualifications:

  • University degree or diploma in environmental science, biology, agrology, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting or fieldwork (internships or volunteer experience welcome).
  • Strong interest in field-based work and hands-on environmental assessments.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging field conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document and report on field observations.
  • Basic understanding of environmental regulations in Alberta and Saskatchewan is an asset, but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a willingness to learn from senior team members.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently when required.


Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of field equipment.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, and repetitive manual tasks (e.g., handling sample jars, equipment setup).
  • Walk long distances over uneven terrain while carrying gear.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind and rain.
  • Drive long distances and travel frequently to remote sites.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights (as required by project).
  • Wear required PPE, including respirators, for extended periods and as required.
  • Perform physically demanding work for extended hours.
